Prospect Place? — Brooklynian

Prospect Place?

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
Hi all. I have registered and am just waiting for my confirmation email! My wife and I are in contract for an apt on Prospect between Vanderbilt and Underhill and we're just wodering how that block is in general re safety, noise etc. Also a friend in the 'hood told me about a block in PH dubbed "crazy lane", I think, by the denizens of this board. I couldn't find anything about it on here. Where is it and is it that bad?

  • Hi Guest. I live on that block. In fact, I'm half wondering if you're in contract for the apartment across the hall from us, but anyway...

I really like it. My husband and I moved from Carroll Gardens, a place that is almost eerily quiet if you catch my drift, and I had concerns, too. Yes, there are occasionally boisterous groups of people walking by (weekends) or a car with its stereo on too loud, and there is this one house where a kids plays "Heart and Soul" on the piano about ten times per day  but for the most part it's completely fine.

It's the first neighborhood I've lived in since moving to NY where I run into people I know on the street, which is only partly due to this board.

The only real safety concession I've made is that I take off my headphones while I'm walking on Vanderbilt (busy street) and stow my iPod before turning onto Prospect, which has less foot traffic. There have been some iPod muggings/thefts and I think having headphones on makes you less alert.

One of the threads about St. Johns Place is here.
  • Great block (I live on it). Its a pretty, quiet block with less car traffic than Park Place or St. Marks since cars are GOING to Flatbush, not coming....

There was a stabbing about a year ago at 3am. The victim was an off duty cop and they found the culprits.

As Emily said, I would be careful with the Pod and walking late at night from the subway. (My rule is a cab after 9pm).

Good luck and welcome to the neighborhood!!!!! 8)
  • Great block and a great investment. Congratulations.
