old photographs of the school environment

I'm working on a research project and looking for old photographs of schools and anything related to the educational environment that is historic in nature. Yes, I've searched all over the web and found plenty in the various archives that exist but am also exploring private collections, dusty boxes in the attic, and such. Thanks!

What exactly does that mean? Do you want photos or poem books or senior autograph books, etc. I still have some stuff from elementary school and junior high

Hi Stacey. For instance: photos of the school grounds, classrooms, students in the classroom, teacher lounges, offices, libraries, desks, the nurse's office, teachers teaching, students learning, cafeterias, assemblies, the walls, kids in line for their scoliosis test, kids taking hearing tests, kids getting punished, special education classrooms, immigrant students, diversity, lack of diversity, socialization.... You name it. Basically I am trying to put together a text that is something along the lines of the history of American Education in pictures. Thanks for asking for clarification!

GiGi - if you haven't already been there, try this microstock photo site. They sell royalty-free photos for as little as one dollar. I just searched using the keywords old school and got 1700+ hits. You might find among those some images you can use.

Why not approach the schools and their teachers? They must have plenty of photos. Check with the Brooklyn Historical Society as well.

Brooklyn Historical has thousands of photographs, though they're a bit chaoticly organized (if I recall correctly, they were put into some sort of order in the 80s, but what order that is no one is real sure anymore). They do have a digital catalog (an ancient one) that you can peruse in their library. They will charge you a fee if you wish to reproduce them (if they even own the copyright).
