He wasn't shot. Both NY1 and the Post are reporting he was knocked down, struck his head on the ground and died from the blow.

18th Street b/n 5th and 6th? if it's not South Slope, it's pretty darn close. Are you thinking Greenwood Heights? FWIW, Google Maps shows it as "South Slope."

Fifteen years ago realtors invented the term "South Slope" for a sort of no-man's land that wasn't distinctively anything - but did have rentable housing. Of course 25 years ago Park Slope stopped at 6th Ave. OK, back to my knitting & rocking chair.
