Lincoln Station: Cheese and sandwiches by Bar Corvo
We've been jabbering about a new sandwich and cheese place on the Bar Corvo thread:
http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/topic/introducing-bar-corvo-the-best-new-american-spot-in-ph
However, it is going to open soon, and I believe it to be worthy of its very own thread (what, afterall isn't, worthy of a thread?)
I'll save you the hassle of clicking:
1. It will be run by the people who operate Bar Corvo.
2. It will have fancy cheese and sandwiches: http://www.timeout.com/newyork/food-drink/the-feed-first-look-lincoln-station
3. It is located on Lincoln, between Washington and Classon.

4. A recent conversation between Mrs Whynot and the owner indicates it is expected to open in late Jan or early Feb, 2013

My first sandwich from here was disappointing.
It was a prosciutto di parma/goat cheese/arugula thing. It took them fifteen minutes to make it, the cheese was very unevenly spread with barely any on half the sandwich, and the bread was a sort of foccacia that should have been very tasty but seemed either underbaked or slightly stale (like day old supermarket bakery bread).
I added cheese at home and stuck the second half of the sandwich in the toaster, and it was nearly perfect, but for $7 I don't expect to have to make improvements to a sandwich myself before it's not a disappointment.
I hope it will improve with time.

@eastbloc $7 seems somewhat reasonable
Only $1 more than Subway's Most Expensive $6 Fake Footlongs
http://www.subway.com/Menu/MenuCategoryItems.aspx?CC=USA&LC=ENG&MenuTypeId=1&MenuId=35So a $1 premium to fast food you might say.
I'm thinking the data here
http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm
doesn't reflect reality -

My girlfriend just had that sandwich and it was AMAZING.
I had the roast chicken sandwich and it was AMAZING.
This place is going to make a killing.
-
I'm fine paying $7. Hell, I'd pay more. I just want it to be good.
-
They certainly have attracted large crowds their first week, despite:
- doing very little advertising
- having a reduced menu
-
So, as of today (March 7) this place has now been open a month.
While it is good, I still do not get the feeling it is fully open with a full menu.
Given the way they opened Bar Corvo, I was thinking they would farther along by now.
-
Great rotisserie chicken, though!
-
the egg sandwich is really really good (just had it)
Other stuff that's good:
roasted chicken sandwich
coppa sandwich
tomato soup
white bean escarole soup
kale sandwich -
-
the roast chicken sandwich is my favorite as well
-
Is there
a) cheese?
b) bread?and I don't mean on a sandwich. If there is, I'll go give it another shot as soon as Monday.
-
This place seems to be focusing on prepared food, not ingredients.
It is not a really a high end deli, with meat, bread and cheese to go.
-
That is unfortunate. The nabs needs a place like this.

I picked up their winter salad and faro salad the other day for dinner. Definitely tasty, but at $12/lb, not something I can do every day. Or every week.
Depending on when you go in, a lot of their take-out salads might be sold out. I've stopped by on my walk home from the subway and on some nights, most of the fresh food is gone. It's also very busy on weekend mornings/midday.
The coffee's pretty good and the staff seems friendly. I plan to try the sandwiches next.
