    If anything, I've seen this behavior more from the so-called long-term residents of the neighborhood, if one is to draw the battle lines of the putative culture and class war as some here do.

    Years ago all you had to do was "curb your dog" because the street sweepers would clean it up. Of course if your dog is dumping on the sidewalk that's totally unacceptable. But the law was changed so the city would be cleaner. But then again, with all the litter around who notices. By the way...all the people here who feed feral cats don't seem to mind that those animals take a crap too once in a while. And I suspect that anywhere they are at the time is where the toilet is.

    good point, but in addition to driving my dog absolutely insane, the feral cats do kill rats, which i like.

    It's obviously always been a problem, and always will be a problem; however, has anyone noticed an uptick in shit lately? Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed more than usual in the past couple of months.

    I think there has been a definite uptick in the number of dogs in the neighborhood. When I purchased my house about ten years ago, I knew every dog on my block (and their owners) by sight, that's how few dogs there were.

    I NEED A BROOKLYNIAN RULING

    Today I was walking my dogs and threw a bag of poo into an open garbage can (w/ a garbage bag in it) in front of an apartment building. A woman who lived across the street decided to yell at me, telling me to throw it in my own garbage. I yelled back at her.

    So what do you think? Is it okay to throw dog poo in open garbage cans on the street?

    I'm going to keep doing it, but I'm just curious what yall think. My logic is as follows: if people cover their garbage, I don't throw my dogs' poo in it; but if there is an uncovered garbage can right next to the sidewalk with a garbage bag in it, I'm gonna throw my dogs' poo in it.

    I think your practice will make people collect their garbage cans quickly after the sanitation truck empties them, so they avoid having your dog's poop put in them.

    Hence, I am ok with it.

    But I really don't expect them to carry the poop bags around with them, so I live with it.

    I would not yell at someone throwing a poop bag in my garbage; it just wouldn't be a neighborly thing to do.

    I personally wouldn't have a problem with it. I suppose I understand opposition to it (though yelling at someone is not the way to handle the situation -- if you don't want them doing it, ask them politely not to). I don't see the big deal. It's wrapped, and it's small. It's not like you unloaded your entire trashcan into their building's can.

    If there is a garbage bag liner in the can and I know no one will have to touch the plastic baggie I will do it but if it is just a garbage can I do not.
