Do you remember when---- Subways, Trolleys & Busses cost a nickle and so did ice cream cones, pepsi & coke. Steeplechase had two daily punch cards. I think one was 39 cents & the other 69 cents, Saturday Matinee in the Globe, Avon & 16th St movies cost a dime, The Daily News and the Daily Mirror were 2cents. My Father used to give me a nickle to go get the News & Mirror and I got to spend the penny change on candy!!!Milk in school came in pint bottles and I think it was 3 cents a day. The bleachers in Ebbetts Field was 50 cents and when it went to 60 cents people screamed bloddy murder. The cop on your beat knew your name and your Fathers name as well! The 5th Ave Trolley went from Atlantic or Flatbush ave all the way out to the 90's. You could get transfer slips from one Trolley to the other free! I remember all that and a lot more. Guess I am an OLD GOAT at that.

HI WARREN.
I DON'T REMEMBER THAT, BUT I DO REMEMBER 25 CENTS FOR A
SLICE & AN ICE.
THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS!!
ENJOY YOUR NIGHT..

Hi Everyone,
Great stories Warren..glad you are feeling better.
Hi to Patsy, Debbie, Anna, Warren and Richard.
Rose and Bobby - Good to see you back on.
Have a great day.
-
Hi Folks - good to see that all is well.
Warren - you mentioned Ebbets Field: do you remember Hilda Chester? Did you ever hear the story about the day she (ahem) lied in court to protect Leo Durocher after he bopped a naughty fan? Evidently, she said the fan cursed her out & Leo was only trying to protect her honor. Well, the judge bought the story and dismissed charges against Leo the Lip! Hilda's sister Mildred was a good friend of mine and she, too, was a wonderful person.
I vaguely remember the old trolleys as they were around until 1956. But I do remember the trackless trolleys as they were used for at least another 10 years:
http://bus.nycsubway.org/trackless.html
And I definitely remember the Steeplechase:
http://www.wnyc.org/i/620/350/80/photologue/photos/steeplechase.jpg
Well, I went shopping yesterday and bought some strawberries, sweet cream, cranberry juice, coco water, and a couple of apples. Know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna make a malt shake each and every day for the next 5 days. Yum, yummmy!
Cheers ....

Hello there,
I remember a real mean Matron at the Globe who used to check the color of your ticket stub and if it indicated you had already seen the main features (two of them) she threw you out. I hope that was not your Mom's friend!!!
I do not think any of you are old enough to remember this but during and right after WWII we used to get a Merry Go Round come up the block pulled by two horses. The Merry go round was not electric. It had a handle that had to be turned to make the ride move. The guy who owned it would start it up and then make kids think he was doing you a favor by letting you turn the handle. A real Tom Sawyer trick. We also had vegetable wagons pulled by horses and every so often somebody who had a victory garden in their back yard would pull up, pull a shovel out of the trunk and shovel the Horse Manure into the trunk and take off. We also had ice and oil trucks pulled by horses. On our block it was "Joe: the ice man. 8-[

Hi, Pretty busy theses days. In between Doctor & Lab visits, Carol & I have been looking at Independent Living Apartments. We found one we like and are about to put our home on the market. We need the proceeds on the sale of the house to be able to afford the monthly rent in the Independent living place. We know which apartment we want. We had lunch in their gourgeous dining room. The food was fabulous. You get breakfast and one other meal a day between 11:3o and 6:30. Up to you when you want to eat. The third meal would be taken care of easily. The apt has a kitchen with a refrig, stove and microwave. The real estate market here has picked up some so we have our hopes up for a sale at a decent price on our house. Meanwhile we had a new A/C & Heater unit installed last week. That was covered by a co-op we belong to for all appliances. Will kep you informed of progress. :-00

Hi Folks!
I'm sure most of us remember the old saw: an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Growing up in God's Country, and being mindful of my rather delicate health (due to respiratory problems, digestive, and other issues) I faithfully adhere to that old saw and always ate apples. NY Golden Delicious being my absolute favorite ~ alas they cannot be found here in Minnesota.
Now that I'm in my 60s (honestly, I did not think I'd go this far), I thought about changing my life for the better by adopting a new health regimen. First, I dropped gluten from my diet and lost 22 lbs in only 8 weeks (my doctor was very happy to see that). Then, I took up using apple-cider-vinegar (won't mention the brand) which is purported to be a great way to maintain one's health. Being particularly vulnerable to stomach viruses, I found that this ACV product really helps to relieve pain and other discomforts associated with that type of illness.
If you Google ACV you will find tens of thousands of testimonies from people who have experienced very positive results from using this item as part of their daily regimen. I wonder if anyone on this forum have had similar experiences and if you'd like to share them with others here.
Always be well!

GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS

FOR A NEW PLACE TO MAKE NEW MEMORIES, & TO KNOW YOU HAVE A
PLACE BACK AT HOME WITH YOUR CHILDREN. ENJOY YOUR BOOK &
RELAX.HI RICHARD. I HAVE HEARD ALOT ABOUT ACV, HONESTLY, I NEVER
TRIED IT, BUT MAYBE NOW I WILL. IT SOUNDS LIKE SUCH A POSITIVE ANTIDOTE. THANX SO MUCH, FOR THE INFO.WARREN,,HOPE YOU'RE FEELING GOOD.
EVERYONE.. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

Hello all you bloggers, Well it has been kind of cold down here the past few days but NO SNOW!!!!We had a warmer then usual February but March has been colder. Many mornings lately in this areas in the low 40's to high 30's. Afternoons a little better. Anna, I had Catarct surgery on both eyes a couple of years ago. I could not believe the difference in my vision. I was getting ready to give up night driving completely but since the surgery I can handle it fine. The drops you have to take is the biggest pain in the Butt but the surgery itself is a snap.
Patsy, you said Toniann will be attending college in S.I.. Do I take it she made a final decision on the school she will be going too? I am not feeling too bad but I have lousy feelings a few times a day. I think it is some of the medication I am taking.
The Real Estate lady was here for 4 hours yesterday and will be back this afternoon to finalize the listing. She estimate 3-6 months for the sale. We shall see. Timing is a big problem because we have to hope that the apt we want will be available around the same time as our closing on the house. We can not afford to be paying for two places at once very long!!! #-o
-
GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS

HI WARREN..YES, TONIANN SO FAR HAS CHOSEN A COLLEGE ON A &60,000 SCHOLARSHIP, SO FAR. SHE HAS QUITE A FEW CHOICES,BUT NOT SET IN STONE YET. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED. HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT ON THE SALE OF YOU HOME & THE NEW PLACE. THAT WORRIES ME TOO, WHEN I THINK ABOUT DOWNSIZING.
I WILL PRAY FOR YOU & CAROL ON THIS MOVE. SOME HOW, I THINK IT ALL WORKS OUT IN THE END. FEEL GOOD.
EVERYONE, HAVE A GRAT DAY!!!

GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS

WELL, THE REAL SNOW HAS FINALLY ARRIVED THIS MORNING.
WE HAVE ABOUT 2-3 INCHES, SO FAR & IT STILL SNOWING AS I WRITE THIS. WE MAY GET UP TO 6", OR MORE, SO THEY SAY, BUT WHO KNOWS??EVERONE, ENJOY YOUR DAY & C U ALL, LATER.

-
Happy Friday one & all.
We have about 14 inches of snow on the ground but the good news is that it's all melting. The Midwest has had a terrible drought in the past 2 years but the recent snows will alleviate some of that.
The college & high school baseball & softball seasons are just around the corner and I'm all excited about that.
Have wonderful day!
-
Hi all.....
Getting ready for Kati's 21st b'day tomorrow!! She's having a party with her friends tonight and I'm having a family party in 2 weeks. She's got me running around all week lol
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.
Hi Patsy, Judy, Anna, Warren and Prodigalson.....
-
Hello All, You can all keep your snow thank you! We have a law against snowing here!! Debbie! A 21 year old party!!!Better have someone checking I.D.s at the door. Make the under 21 drivers the designated drivers. Prodigal Son. Hate to let you down but I will not get excited till the regular pro baseball season starts. I feel the same way about football. If the NFL is not on I might watch a college game but some of them are so inept it bores me. When a friend of mine had a Grandson playing first string for Boston College I watched their games and they were on quite often. Down here I must admit college Football is THE THING!. Florida has had a lot of championship teams over the years and when The Gators play the Seminoles, it is wild! =P~

GOOD AFTERNOON, FRIENDS

DEBBIE...KISS KATI HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR US. XX

GREAT TIME. FOOD, MUSIC & DANCING. TONIANN SAID IT WAS
REALLY A GOOD TIME..HI WARREN & RICHARD & TO ALL, EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT
WEEKEND..
-
Kindest greetings one & all ...
Warren - surprise! I am a big Florida Gators & SEC fan - they just had a great match vs Kentucky but came up short. College football may well be the king of amateur sports but there are many others which provide much fun for all.

While there is plenty of snow on the ground, I'm in my warm apartment and just had a superb milkshake comprised of red grapes, coco water, coco cream, & sweet cream. The taste is beyond description!
Everyone have a fabulous weekend and remember that it's Daylight Savings tonight.
-
