Brooklynian Spring 2013 Gathering: Friday, May 10, 2013. 8 PM

your gal on the go here. Talked to Mitch of Nostrand Ave Pub today. He says his craft beer, 20 taps and liquor bar will be open in two weeks. No later that April 21. As God is his witness. AND he happened to mention that the old Starlite/Metro PCS spot on Bergen and Nostrand (across from CT Muffin) has been rented to some salad bar/deli place, more upscale, not just another arab bodega. The gates are down and man oh man, i can't wait to see what that is gonna be like.

Back to Nostrand Ave Pub. I checked out the back yard. Its gonna be nice.

Reporting to you from the corner of st. Marks and Nostrand.

Come one, come all,

to the Nostrand Avenue Pub,

located at 658 Nostrand Avenue.

Friday, May 10, 2013 at 8 PM.

A trusted source, Tsarina, has informed us that a pub we have been watching on Nostrand will soon open, and I believe that they will have worked out any opening kinks prior to May 10th.

A gathering is warranted.

Regular readers may recall that the last general Brooklynian get together was for an event known as Festivus, which was celebrated FOR THE 8TH YEAR IN ROW at a different bar in the Crown Heights neighborhood.

You are not required to RSVP, and you may have already RSVP'd via Facebook.

However, if you RSVP on this thread, it will let Brooklynian newbies and lurkers be confident that they will not be spending an awkward beer alone with me.

Carry on.

  • We will be there!

  • I'm definitely looking forward to that!

  • Survey says:

  • I am optimistic that people like beer.

...it seems to be a beverage that has some staying power.

  • Count me in. Leaving NYC May 21st. This is in my calendar

  • This sounds like a wonderful opportunity to test out a babysitter. :)

  • RSVP me in!

  • Although this event is still a ways away, I am trying to cast a wide net.

I hope people that I know from the community will join us, and have begun to spread the word.

...these people don't post on Brooklynian. The web isn't their thing.

  • Tsarina-

Today is April 21, and Nostrand Pub isn't open yet!

...worse yet, I checked the Liquor Authority website and he doesn't yet have a permit.

...which (needless to say) is a good reason to not be open yet.

Can you get us an update as to whether he is going to open before May 10th?

Attendees: Don't worry, this event will happen. In the event that Mitch is foiled by SLA or some other forces, it will just be moved to another venue.

...lots of people have RSVP'd via Facebook as well.

  • Hmm, I'll try my best to make it!

  • Stopped in yesterday and he is hiring staff. He says he will be open Monday the 29th of April. Things look good in there.

  • Excellent. I am thirsty, and have always wanted to meet Harry Winkler.

  • I walked by today, and saw cases of glassware and liquor ready to be arranged.

...there is a garden out back, and the owner has clearly put a lot of $ into renovating this place.

The governor is working on a backlog of SLA applications.... http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Cuomo-Liquor-license-backlog-smaller-4470847.php

C'mon, you can open before May 10.

  • I am told it opened last night, Monday April 29!

I was sent this picture, which matches what it looked like from the outside.

  • Beer list is up:

If you have never been to a Brooklynian gathering before, you will know you have found us when you see this sign:

Alas - poor me! Now that I know I'm gluten intolerant there's no more beer for me.

The gluten free beers they have on the market today are said to be pukie. Mebbe some day they will come up with a decent one ...

  • There are alcoholic beverages which are not beer.

These are also the beverages I seem to drink most often: Diet Coke. Water.

  • So mommy dearest decided to reschedule her plane tickets and is now showing up two days earlier than expected. ](*,) So I won't be able to make it.

  • You can't bring Mommy Dearest?

  • Tate-

The Fonz does not have a mother. He would have to bring Mrs. Cunningham. ...that is the back story of why he lives in the apartment above the family's garage.

Diet coke? Ugh! That's got chemicals in it.

As for water, you remind me of how good the water used to taste from the tap when I was growing up in ENY. It was even better when I traveled up to Delaware County. By contrast, here in Minnesota the first thing you notice about the water is the amount of sand stone in it. Yuck! That's why I have to use a filter or my guts would be filled with dirt.

  • Prodigalson,

I assume you are not flying in from MN for this event.

However, I am pleased to announce that we have received about 20 RSVPs via Facebook.

Several of whom are people who don't post on Brooklynian anymore, the rest being a variety of people who live in the area.

Of those I have previously met, everyone who is coming is good looking. However, this fact should not intimidate newbies.

Readers, the photo that was supposed to show the sign above is acting up. Here is a photo of the sign:

  • Nah - with my weak stomach I wont be flying anymore. I'm afraid I'll spill my delicate guts on the plane and cause myself much embarrassment as well as a bit of discomfort for others.

Anyways, I hope you all have a fabulous time! :)

  • Thanks.

Customers are already posting photos to foursquare. They seem happy.

  • I'm thinking it might be warm enough tonight to be in the garden.

I'm also thinking that we might get a good crowd, since a lot of people have RSVP'd on Facebook and here.

...which means, I might casually mention to the bartender how many people I have brought to the bar, in the hopes of getting a free beer.

    I am a simple man.

  • happy hour ends at eight. go there early.

  • It was good seeing folks last night!

The bar was quite full, despite being open only 2 weeks.

The bouncers were a little more visible than places to the west.

The beer was a little less expensive.

The crowd seemed psyched to not have to walk as far as Franklin Ave to spend an evening out.

  • the backyard is great!

  • I am sorry I missed this, one of my best friends was randomly in town with his wife
