Plant / Garden Store — Brooklynian

Plant / Garden Store

Hi,

I have a jade tree that I'm trying to save. I was wondering, is there a good plant or garden store in the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill area? I'm at Clermont btwn Myrtle and Willoughby. I don't have a car so I'd prefer something in walking distance that I can lug my plant to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
riz

  • There's a great little place with lots of plants out front on S. Portland near Fulton (I think).

I'm trying to look up the name and address now, I'll get back to you
  • Yeah, that place is great. It's on S Portland between Fulton and Lafayette, right next to Cafe Lafayette. There's also a nice place on Atlantic, on the right side as you walk from 4th ave towards 3rd ave. Not sure of the cross st but it's maybe a couple blocks beyond 3rd ave.

As a side note, I'm psyched to finally see the FG board have some posts. Perhaps it's thanks to the additional of Clinton Hill and Bedstuy--either way, hopefully we can get a following in this area too so I don't have to carpetbag on the PH board so much!!
  • the s. portland place is Gardel's Garden. Gardel will help you out.

If you're replanting, mix half sand and half soil, jade plants are succulants so they need good drainage and the soil needs to dry out from time to time. Also feeds occasionally with miracle grow.
  • And there's also the one that's on Flatbush just east of 4th Avenue, across the street from Radio Shack and that vitamin place and next to BAM. Never been there, though, so I can't speak to how good it is.

Yes- sandy soil and only water them ONCE A WEEK! I almost killed my jade plant before I learned this, and now it's thriving.
