Drug/Weapon bust at Washington and Crown, Thursday, May 9, 2013

Nice Desert Eagle. Not very practical for toting around, though.
-
“This bust will significantly disrupt this distribution network which affects the entire area and draws other criminal elements into our neighborhood” a law enforcement source told CrownHeights.info.
Yeah, right.
-
I am kinda surprised the squad was willing to be photographed.
...I'd think that kinda impacts their future ability to work undercover.
-
The more guns and drugs we get off the street the better off we all are! So kudos on a job well done NYPD! But "nearly a kilogram of illegal narcotics" not really a huge bust by any means.
-
The guns and drugs weren't on the street, they were in an apartment.
I don't feel any safer.
-
I feel a tiny bit safer.
Maybe a factor of 0.0000023

All snark aside, better to get this stuff out of the hands of future drive by shooters than not.
-
I agree pragmaticguy. But it's always so much fun to mock or minimize the accomplishments of the police, right?
-
Kudos to the police. Getting guns off the street is huge.
Next time there is a posting about someone being shot, think about this post.
-
Think about this post, and how it made no difference in someone being shot? As long as prohibition continues, so will the busts and the shootings. It's an endless cycle. It's not the fault of the cops, but it accomplishes nothing other than keeping the equilibrium of the status quo in play.
The risk of the trade is one of the things that keeps profits in the game and will have the next generation of kids pick up the next set of guns and the next kilo of narcotics. Neither of these is scarce in supply.
You're kidding yourselves if you think this brings us any closer to winning the war on drugs.

Obviously the war on drugs is a losing battle but sometimes one needs to keep those battles going if only to keep the problem from getting worse. Legalization of marijuana might not be such a bad thing but would anyone want heroin, crack or cocaine made legal? I don't really think so.
-
Everyone loves it when the police apprehends a murderer, or stops a crime in progress.
Despite what TV and movies portray, such work is the exception.
I've known cops who work warrant squads and narcotics, and most of thier days involves doing the prep work to get a warrant, getting a warrant, and then executing it.
As thier jobs go, this was a pretty good haul. They are doing what "we" tell them to do....

I don't really think so.They all used to be legal (well, not crack; it was invented after cocaine was already illegal, and that's the main ingredient). Criminalizing them does not reduce the demand, it just makes the supply side lucrative enough to kill over.
So why shouldn't they be legal? Alcohol and tobacco result in far more social problems. Most of the social problems of heroin and cocaine use stem from their legal status.
Howdy, Stranger!
