Crown Heights - suitable for international student? — Brooklynian

Crown Heights - suitable for international student?

Hi there!

This summer I will be doing a summer course in New York at the Miami Ad School (located in Dumbo near the Brooklyn bridge). I'm looking for a place to stay during those 3 months, but as an international student (I live in The Netherlands) it's quite hard to exactly understand where it's safe to life and where it's not. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

Currently I'm looking at 2 appartments (via nyurbanliving.com ):

Kingston ave / St Marks ave

What's this block like?

Nostrand ave / Eastern Parkway

What's this block like?

Would you guys consider these apartments a good deal and in a good (enough) neighbourhood for a student? Is it easy to find transportation from here to Dumbo?

Thanks a bunch!

  • I live off of Nostrand and Park. Never had a problem and I really like the neighborhood. $1,700 seems pretty pricey to me. But then again its a fully furnished short term lease. You can easily take the 3 to Clark Street and walk over to DUMBO from there. The ads says there is monthly fee. Make sure you try to negotiate that down if you can.
