wanna be victimsI'm kinda disappointed we didn't get a reference to the double wide stroller, or the food coop.
Hence, I will continue to dream about eating steak on a mountain in Vermont. ...that I rode my bike to.

Again, I'm confused as to why you can't lock your bike in front of the building where you live. If you can look out of the window and have a line of sight to this tree, certainly, you can see your front yard or gate, or steps, or some part of your house from your window as well. And since this tree can't be the only thing on your block there must be a signpost, light stand or some other inanimate object that you can also see from your window. Finally, if your bike is so expensive and/or precious that it can't be out of your eyesight, then certainly in your apartment is the best place for it.

Stop your crying and put your bike in the tub if you can't find anywhere else in your apartment. I'm sure there are parents who don't really have room for their stroller in their apartment but you never see any strollers chained up to trees. That would be stupid, illegal and inconsiderate . Either get over yourself and learn some manners or move back to Vermont

See, where the people who own the house went wrong was that they should have chained something to her bicycle. Sort of a quid pro quo. But in any event, I'm amazed at how little sympathy she got here. Or then again, maybe it's just that there's so much common sense on this blog.

I think a lot of people who part their bikes on the street live in fourth floor walk-ups, and have an mgt company that effectively forbids them from storing stuff in the hall ways.

Insurance companies hate seeing stuff in the hallways. Blocks egress in the case of fire. They'll cancel a policy over it. On another note, I figure this woman's bike with its bamboo frame, which she makes a point of mentioning more than once, is quite expensive and I'm wondering why she'd leave it out in the weather. Now she's put it in storage somewhere and is riding a crappy bike. I can't see leaving an expensive bike out in the rain or even under a tree where birds can dump on it.

Like I stated before I have more fashion statement than most and that thingy you hammered on the wall is oh so tacky. No pastel color in teh world can hide the sheer ugliness it represents. It would ruin the feng shui layout of my apt.
As for the price of my bicycle i Will admit it costs more than the ordinary bicycle but then again it is my choice to do with it as I please. I stated before that in my home state chains are not usually required but alas NYC has proven to be the exception to the rule. My investment was well protected via the very thick chain. In all the time i owned the bicycle and chained it to that tree no one had ever tried to steal it. Instead I get homophobic inbred neighbors vandalizing it.
UPDATE: Since I switched over to the commoner bicycle no harm has come to my new mode of conveyance. I will see what happens tonight when a good friend spends the night. She will chain her bicycle next to mine for good measure. Thanks to the recommendation of a neighbor, I purchased a Costco infrared camera set up and have aimed one of the 6 cameras out my window and facing the tree. If this homophobe takes the bait he will be caught on video and I will have him arrested.
Let's see what kind of rat I catch tonight. I cant wait.

Personally I don't care for steak at all, but a trip to Vermont sounds lovely. We were even debating something similar for the weekend. Oh well, some other time.

Sigh...I don't condone vandalizing yourk bike, the point is this - it is illegal to chain your bike to a tree. If I were your neighbors and I had already asked you not do that, I would look toward legal means (I don't know if 311 helps in these manners) to get your bike removed. This has nothing to do with being straight or gay - this has to do with the fact that you think you are above the law.

Wouldn't it be something if your recording were the damning piece of evidence at your trial for violation of city laws against chaining bikes to trees?

So, a brief search turned up the following: Damage to an item that is less than $250 results in a charge of Criminal Mischief in the first degree with is a misdemeanor. I'm no lawyer, but if this is the couple's first offense it's probably going to be plead down to a much lesser charge or result in a minor fine?
Chaining a bike to a tree is a fine of $1000.
In this case recording "vandalism" could result in the bike owner facing the stiffer punishment. Unless you maybe pull your fancy bike out of storage and convince the "vandals" to commit more than $250 worth of damage onto it.

Huh? Are you for real? I know I have been in this state for just a couple of years but I even know that when it comes to enforcing laws regarding trees or shrubbery that the body that is in charge of this enforcement is a joke.
Let us be real and frank, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO ME FOR CHAINING MY BICYCLE TO ANY TREE! Need I remind you that the bicycle does not require any registration and be such how would they even summons me for this naughty violation. Sure they can take my bike after clipping the chain but then again I have never seen this done. Hmm!
I have been doing this for a greater part of a year and low and behold my Bicycle has not been mysteriously hocked by any enforcement entity. Please stop trying to introduce a toothless boogeyman into this incident when in fact the greater violation is the discrimination I have suffered just for being different.
Please know what you are talking about before trying to bully me via a different venue of discussion. We have gone from gay bashing to tree bruising. Why? In the greater scheme of things we all know what is more important. I am thinking that some of you know this couple which explains the deplorable treatment I am experiencing.

I do not understand what my finances have to do with the matter at hand. Watching you people discuss the value of my items only lets me believe that you are envious of others. Who cares what i spend on a camera setup, my rent or my bicycle. What is important is that i can afford these items and that I should not be persecuted for having a sound financial footing or for being gay.

Personally I like Southern Vermont. I like tofu but it doesn't grill very well and with this weather I think grilling would be ideal even though it's a little rainy up there right now. So, I'll take chicken I think.

Mamacita, might I advise you to read over the prior posts carefully before jumping to erroneous conclusions. I see that proof reading is not your forte. First off, my bicycle is not ugly and I never referred to it as being ugly. If your bicycle is not up to snuff there is no reason to try to insult mine. Envy does not become you and if you can not afford such a bicycle then that is your problem. Might I suggest you get a better job. Secondly I never said I hated having my bicycle inside my apt. What I did say was that I frankly do not have room in my apt and having it hanging from a wall via some doohickey contraption would ruin the decor of my abode. If you can not understand this concept then I will strive to speak slower in the future on your behalf. Thirdly, I do not understand the affinity some of you staunch New Yorkers have for the trees on your street. Yes I understand they are living entities but then again you do realize that these are not delicate beings. For the simpletons on this forum I shall educate you once more. Trees are one of the most resilient living things on this planet. To assume that a bicycle leaning on its bark will cause irreparable damage is totally asinine. Trust me I know about trees . Vermont has quite a number of trees and last I looked none of them died due in part to having a bicycle leaning on it. Perhaps I should call my dad ant tell him to remove the tree house at once. OH THE HUMANITY! We must run and save the trees from the bike leaning persecution. That was a joke just in case you missed it. Either way I frankly do not care if you think my plight is real or not.
I must admit that NYC is full of quite the spoiled characters.
P.S...The bike will not be removed any time soon.
