Sweet. I ordered my keys yesterday.
I'm concerned that the Franklin Ave bike rack will be very competitive. We'll need more than this.
-
These seem to be all located in CB9 (which covers roughly the southside of EP), making me suspect that CH will get some additional stations once they go before CB 8.
-
I have a suspicion that the bike share program is going to be far more successful and transformational than most people expect.
-
I think the impact will be significant, but am CERTAIN that those who are expecting the end of the world will be disappointed.
-
I think it is no coincidence that bike share is able to be launched at the same time NYC is redesigning and reclaiming its public spaces.
The NYT ran a good piece on micro parks today: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/02/arts/design/a-prescription-for-plazas-and-public-spaces.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Hmm, will they go to the transportation committee meeting or the main meeting for CB8? I want a station directly in front of my apartment, so I don't have to take my bike in and out of my house for short rides.

ive ridden several citibike trips around manhattan and brooklyn this past week and am a huge fan. talk about a game changer.
if you see anything about proposed locations on vanderbilt or around prospect park please do share. was bummed to see there actually were lots of stations south of atlantic included in phase 1 but then eventually scaled back.

Yes, according to a guy I know who was pretty involved in the planning and launch, the organizers decided that their best strategy was to start small and work out the kinks before expanding.
The goal is that when it is time to go before the additional CBs, none of the existing CBs have anything bad to say.
Needless to say, much of this is dependent upon the business plan they created:

...contrary to what you may read in the media, none of the process has been secret.

This is the DOT's map of the full "Phase 1" of bikeshare:
http://a841-tfpweb.nyc.gov/bikeshare/station-map/
The grey stations are the ones yet to be added, in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and more easterly parts of Bed-Stuy.Unfortunately, since the proposal Whynot linked above, Crown Heights and Park Slope were removed from Phase 1 (as well as the lower Upper East and West Sides), though a little bit of LIC was added. I'd hope we'll get bikes immediately afterward, though I can understand prioritizing Greenpoint and eastern Bed-Stuy, as their subway situation is rather lacking compared to ours.
Howdy, Stranger!
