Hi all-

I live over in Prospect Heights and am familiar with the PH Brooklyian forum. This is my first time posting in the Crown Heights/Prospect Lefferts Gardens section.

I have some friends who live in Park Slope who are considering renting an apartment on Lincoln between Franklin and the Shuttle tracks. They are a tad worried as Franklin and Lincoln has kind of a bad reputation as far as Franklin Avenue intersections go.

Is this unfounded? I know, years ago, this may have been true, but do you guys think that it is an unsafe block? They have a one year old, so they also value a not-too-loud location at night. Is it a quiet block? Or are there frequent summertime parties on this block?

Any thoughts as to Lincoln Place just west of Franklin would be much welcome.

    There was a sketchy bodega that was apparently a host to some dirty dealings which burnt down. It was replaced by a restaurant with $10 sandwiches. That pretty much sums things up. There's always a ton of foot traffic from the subway station, and cops on foot are a regular sight at night.

    95 South down the block had a nonfatal shooting outside earlier this summer, however.

    I've lived on this block for almost four years after fleeing Park Slope. The bad reputation comes from back in the days when there was a thriving drug operation out of the bodega on the northwest corner of the block. That storefront is now occupied by some overpriced foodie restaurant.

    I feel safe on the block. I'm a mid-30s woman. It's a loud block during the summer: kids playing, car stereos thumping, and speakers facing the street from some windows. It sounds like other blocks in the neighborhood are much louder, what with the professional DJ equipment folks post about.

    Your friends, obviously, should visit the block at night.

    I feel the above posters accurately describe the block, and agree the best way for you to get a full understanding of it is to visit at night, preferably a Friday or Saturday night.

    Welcome to the neighborhood. For better or worse, it may resemble Prospect Heights in a few summers.
