Proselytizers around the neighborhood on Friday evening?

Anyone know what the Legrand family is up to these days?

The dude who buzzed was a really tall and skinny white guy in a cassoc with a priest's collar and an ornate gold cross. The three women who stood further back looked like this but in blue.
http://gawker.com/5596119/fake-nun-panhandles-for-notorious-legrand-rape-clanAll of this was through the security cam associated with the buzzer - it felt like I was staring at them for hours!
-
Despite their efforts at retention, I have to assume the Legrand family/cult occasionally has some turnover.
I also have got to hand it them, whenever I see a panhandling nun or priest, I think of them.
Lots of interesting reading here:

I saw 2 nuns dressed in blue walking around on St Marks earlier in the week, maybe on Tues? They looked youngish so they piqued my interest. It is not everyday you see young nuns strolling around in Brooklyn unless it is halloween.
-
i saw them, a big group of them (~15, different black, white and blue robes) walked up and down vanderbilt yesterday. one guy had a mic and amplifier and was chanting a little bit. they were carrying an ark-type thing.
i kinda wish they were around last weekend when the pride truck from branded saloon kept rolling around the block blasting party music with dancers in the back

As a result of attending Catholic school as a child, I have to admit that those young fake nuns we see on Halloween are a huge turn on.
The fishnet stockings likely play a role.
-
If and when you see them again, and if you feel they are "casing" residences for burglary, immediately call the 77th Precinct and notify them of what you saw. The present and last precinct captain have the same disclaimer; if you don't tell me, then it didn't happen.
-
They were doing door-to-door promotion of some sort of event at St. Joseph's (the big church on Pacific). While it was a little unusual, I think they were legit (and totally non-pushy when I declined - which would be out of character with scam artists).
-
That's kind of a let down, Arches.
-
Well...I didn't ask what the event was, but you can hold out hope that it was really just a fishnet stocking handout.
-
They didn't need fishnets, I would have settled for Legrand family.
-
I talked to these guys for about 15 minutes and Arches is correct. They are trying to bring "life" back to St Josephs. Two Irish "fathers to be" will be there all week and there is a new young "pastor?" there who is "open minded". They wanted to save me but they were nice about it. That small walk they did was intended to be a procession.
-
As Ladd said they are looking to bring people back to the church. Knowing the "young" pastor he is extremely nice and is trying to get the community involved with the church. They are also trying to get youth group together which will be open to all the people of the community. I think its great that they went out to meet everyone. Even though I do not attend church I would hate to see that church close It is a beautiful church.

Saw the procession down St Marks early this evening.
I think it's funny I thought they were shady. But you know, it's not every day you see a priest and nuns (in blue, too, which is interesting) trying to get in the apartment.

St. Josephs has become more important in the Catholic hierarchy- I'm not sure how all that stuff works. So we'll probably see a bigger presence in general with the church over the next few years.
-
Yup, it was recently elevated to being a Cathedral.
-
That's so crazy!
