Extremely loud outdoor DJ party behind around 186 Park Place (off of Flatbush)?
This has been going since this afternoon and showing no signs of stopping at midnight. I can Shazam the music (2 Chainz) through a shut window and I'm a half block away on the other side. Does anyone know who's running these? Weird thing is when you walk down Park Place, you can't hear it and you don't see any people coming and going, so 186 is only an educated guess (you can see flashing lights coming from the back of that address if you look). Last summer was relatively quiet -- I thought they might have moved on to another venue -- but they're back again.
Wish something could be done about this, at least make it stop at a reasonable hour so people in the vicinity can actually sleep. I'm sure the partiers are having fun, but they're ensuring that no one else on the block is able to enjoy some peace in their own gardens or in the back rooms of their homes or apartments for more than half a day and way into the night.

So how long before someone says it......
it is brooklynian after all [-X

Maybe someone on the Day shift?

This is not just a backyard party, guys. They're using very powerful speakers, lights, DJ, etc. It was still going at 2am. I know you practically own Brooklynian, "Mamacita," but I'm guessing it's easy for you to say "that's Brooklynian" complete with wagging figure emoticon (how sweet) because your bedroom window isn't anywhere near this outdoor club event. It was going on since before dinner -- an 11pm cut-off would have been reasonable.
So I gather that what you're saying is that Brooklyn is a place of self-centered people who don't give a sh*t about their neighbors. I lived in Cobble Hill for 13 years without anything like this, so I don't think it's "Brooklynian." It's about a certain type of people.

NO, you misunderstood me. Calm down, read the rules of the site and you'll understand that my comment was not towards you, but the to the reaction a post LIKE yours usually incites.
-
Misunderstood what?

Mamacita is suggesting that (as I also anticipated) posts similar to yours often prompt replies of the "if you don't like it here, find someplace else to live" variety.
She wasn't (and I am not either) saying that such posts are appropriate responses to your post, or that there is anything at all wrong with your post... just that that's how people often respond to noise complaint posts.
-
Ok, got your point, booklaw. My intention was not to spawn "if you don't like it here" messages, but literally to ask people if they knew who was giving these outdoor club events. Apologies -- I'm pretty sleep deprived today.

These types of posts have been happening on this board for years. Inevitably, someone comes on and chastises the "newbie" for daring to criticize the "locals" for hosting a loud, late party on a work/school/any night, blasting music and showing disregard for common courtesy. Taking it a step further, said poster implies that the "newbie" is raciss/classist/imperialist for even suggesting that manners be displayed or social mores respected. In the end, said party behavior is attributed to "culture" and if the OP is thought to be white or to have resided in the area for less than 30 years, their feelings are disregarded and character attacked. End of story.

The last one I remember was this one (see below) and I felt super bad for the OP (original poster) who never returned to the boards. And that's a shame, we need to foster more community...
-
Totally forgot about that one Mamacita! Your right about needing to foster a community. I feel that maybe a half dozen to ten of us post on a regular basis.
-
I think the number of folks who come on and accuse us of being the manifestation of all that is evil have declined in number as traffic on the site has decreased (here, as well as on sides like Gothamist, etc), and as normative changes have taken place across much of the city.
....it has become harder for people to convince themselves that "we" are the enemy who controls NYC.
But those were (and still occasionally ARE) good times!

THINGS have gotten better over the last ten years. But all it takes to 1 big party to ruin your cool. We had the police out three times this weekend to contend with the last of the bad tenants in the building next door. Get a number of your neighbors who are also are offended by the noise to call police. knock on doors to try to find out where it is coming from, ask people if it is to the right or left of the building, and even go on your roof to determine where it is coming from. Get a number of people to call the police, go to the precinct council meetings, meet the police in charge. discuss. and then keep calling in numbers. I got the police to come out within 30 minutes of the call on a couple calls and when they know it is an ongoing problem they will respond. GOOD LUCK!
Amplified sound systems, DJ's after 11 pm. will get the police attention, but help them out with an exact address. -
Thanks a lot, Tsarina. I think yours was the only post that actually addressed the issue I raised. Not sure if I'll ever post again on Brooklynian -- too much grandstanding for my taste by a few.
Anyway, that's all good advice. I did actually go to a precinct meeting to make a complaint last year, but the topic that night turned into the issue of escalating shootings, so I stayed mum. I called the police after 11 pm this past Saturday and gave what I believed to be the address (as I mentioned in my original post, it was impossible to confirm because it's in a backyard and I could see no noticeable traffic on any stoop on the street). I honestly think the outfit that hosts these gigs has friends in law enforcement because they've been going on for a few years completely unchallenged until 2am or later (kinda like the menacing motorcyclists who do wheelies at high speeds down Flatbush, who roam many streets in this area with total impunity -- that I've seen with my own eyes).
ANYway, it's a good thing there are only four or five of these events a summer, so that's less than a week of lost sleep. But I'm not kidding when I say these are really loud outdoor club events that belong in a larger venue at some remove from people's homes.

...would also like to thank Jack Krohn for your supportive post.

You can make all the calls and complaints in the world, but if the party is 1) not visible from the street; 2) not bringing problems like double parking, public alcohol consumption, fighting etc.; 3)not full of young black kids the odds are slim that the police will show. Your best bet is to talk to neighbors and/or the block association and see if a group approach to the problem works.
Or, you can throw your own competing late-night party. At least that way, you won't miss your sleep.

I like the idea of an all night party.
A lot of my friends are professionals with kids, and as a result, I haven't gotten invited to an all night party in years.
If you have one, I might attend.

I am sorry you are leaving these boards over this. The problem is many of us, including myself, have either posted, dealt with or commented numerous times about this EXACT issue.
Honestly, what Jack Krohn said, is really true. It is unlikely to stop, unless there is a huge economic shift in your nab. The cops in many of those areas have become immune to noise issues, because they are dealing with worse quality of life issues.
The harsh truth is that you may have to move.
I had a similar situation and ended up moving.
I will also be so bold as to say it *is* a "class" issue. Many of these people who hold these parties don't have 9-5 jobs, or have come from economic groups, where they were not socialized to accommodate neighbors who have jobs. That is why they CAN/DO party all night. Whether it be college kids, thugs, or "lowlifes", the fact is if you are working as hard as most full time employees are, chances are you are not partying that hard on a weeknight. If you grew up surrounded by hardworking neighbors, chances are you will have been told by your parents or your parents would have been informed by the cops, or their neighbors that your behavior is UNACCEPTABLE.
The problem is some areas in Brooklyn have large enclaves of "subsidized housing" where many of the tenants do not work, and receive some type of government assistance. It's in these areas, that all night parties become an issue. In my old Sunset Park Nab, I lived on a street where there was a large building full of section 8 recipients. Never the less, these were the folks up all night in parked SUV's playing music and having street parties. They can do that because they don't have to wake up at 5-7 am the next day.
I don't care if I get flamed for saying what I have said. I work in social service/mental health, and see this dynamic waay too often.

wow. this sounds like the same deal and same address that was having regular late night parties when i lived nearby in the late 90s. gotta wonder. if it's the same, it was definitely a business, some sort of illegal club that probably violated a bunch of laws. they had huge speakers outside and served food and had lots of people, which made me suspect it was a commercial enterprise and hence quite illegal. i regularly called the cops and the city to complain. did little good, i'm sorry to say. eventually we moved. wish i had some better advice. good luck.
