what does 'ProHo' mean anyway? i get the 'Pro'spect part, but where does 'Ho' come from (hmm, maybe i'm opening myself up on that one). (oh crap, maybe i just did it again).

ProHo was perhaps the earliest running joke of this board--a self-deprecating comment on the level of excitingness and upandcomingness of the neighborhood (sorry, not so coherent in the AM, it seems) and a silly reference to Soho. Early trolls on this board loved to come and make fun of the name ProHo, not realizing that it was entirely meant as a joke.

I think we owe the current name to some real estate agent with a vision to isolate the area from others. I'm sure it will be renamed in some future neo-gentrification era, when we have gone through the full cycle. Changing it now, may bring your home values down, it's just bad marketing...watch out!

What about Adelphi? On Google maps Prospect Heights shows up as Adelphi. Curbed recently picked up on that.

It was never called prospect heights before some re agents started calling it that.
That area was always known as crown heights as it was always part of crown heights.
Landlords loved the change as well. It helped drive up rents in the area.
It is what it is.
Whatever name you wanna call it, its still crown heights.
If calling it Prospect Heights makes you feel better about where you live, then so be it. No problem there at all.
It's just always been crown heights as long as I've been alive and living in brooklyn. Even when my younger brother lived there and he tried the prospect heights name on. We all told him to stop it. It is what it is. If you enjoy living there then cool.............but its still crown heights -
i've seen very old maps where it's listed as park slope, actually. and there are certainly old businesses around named accordingly -- like the park slope garage on sterling EAST of washington.
but anyway, it's ALL realtor talk, all of it. some of it is just older than others.
i'm sticking with crow hill for where i live, even though no one ever knows what i'm talking about.
oh, and more cake and pie, please. that's a good name for any neighborhood. especially now that joyce is open. -

Instead of just jerimandering this old Dutch colonly for voting districts or squeezing more people into even smaller spaces, I say we just slap on a few more neighborhoods and create a new map. Here's my diagram.
Let's say that people from ULESBO (Under the Lower East Side Bridges Overpass) move here, they can buy a house, or a co-op. They can live in lovely DUBuQE (Down Under the BQE). After they sell that first investment they might think of moving to ever sunny and cheery DUFTO (Down Under the F Train Overpass) or the GWAVA (Gowanus Valley).
If they were smart enough to have sold at the height of the market, they could buy some fancy dig at the Magic Johnson (AKA Williamsburg Bank) in BLOHA (Boerum Leading Onto Hannover).
But can one touch PROHO? It's borders keep expanding. Some are even calling it Down Town.
But check this out. As you can see on the NewBrooklyn Territory Map, The State of Park Slope and Providence Plantations keeps sprouting arms and legs. You can't fall over a stroller without landing in Park Slope PP. -
