WhereÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s the best place to cheer up a 30-year-old female friend, who just dumped her boyfriend of over two years, this Saturday? Should we consider any Park Slope Locations?

It totally depends on what your friend likes. We need more info. Obviously there are loads of bars in Park Slope. Is she into cocktails? Wine? Beer? Does she like quiet places or lively? Posh or dives?

Is it really that surprising that someone would be upset after ending a 2 year relationship, regardless of who did the actual breaking up?

I wish I could offer the perfect bar/restaurant that would ease her pain, but girl just has to go through it I guess. That being said, you could take her to a lively place like Bogota for some really mind numbing mojitos, you could take her to a wine bar for some quiet conversation, and if you have the cash, just take her to Blue Ribbon. The bartenders there are so friendly (and sometimes flirty) and the food is so good, that should take her mind of things for a couple of hours at least.

I dumped my loser boyfriend quite recently and I still needed a little cheering up. The most effective parts of the cheering up process were wine and my friends reminding me what a loser he was.

if i was a classy girl, i'd go for Total Wine Bar on 5th
Flatbush Farm on St. Mark's above 5th
or Bogota Bistro would work too

someplace low key and with people to remind me
that there's more fish in the sea

and the alcohol of course... of course.

noooooo, not Total Wine Bar. If she's a classy girl as you say (I like to think or at least PRETEND I am as well) and I am quite the wino, Total Wine Bar sucks. and its cheesy. If you want a nice selection of wines, somewhere nice, roomy, go to the bar at Tempo. (5th and Garfield?)
and if you want snacks, the food there is incredible. Then, for a hoot, take her to CattyShack on 4th....unless of course she's looking for a rebound, I take back my suggestion, unless she wants to pinch hit....lol
in that case, you give her my number

I only went once to Total Wine Bar and my experience was awful (I already discribed it on another post).

Does your night out have to be in Brooklyn?

Just take her out and read her signals - either let her drown her sorrows with you (yes, for whoever asked - you CAN still be sorry even if you initiated the breakup!) or take her out for a bit of partying to get her mind off of it (or get her laid, if that's what she wants).

i go along with the bogota suggestion, esp. since it's where my brother took me after my last relationship broke up. margaritas and fish tacos, good for what ails you.

(or, it could be possible that she wants to hide under her bed and cheering her up isn't anything anyone could do. in that case, a care package from cocoa bar.)

I've only been there twice but I had fun both times..
I hope she'll get over it soon, whatever the situation is, breaking up with someone is a lot of pain.

actually, much as it TRULY SUCKS to be broken up with, the person who did the breaking can feel really guilty and sad for a long, time, i think, than one would expect. (not taking away anything from the person who gets broken up with, which can often knock you upside the head and make you feel completely desolate.)

i don't know. i've broken up with complete jerks and felt really liberated. and i've ended things with people i truly cared about, even though i didn't think we should be together. knowing you've really hurt someone is pretty painful, esp. since it's not unlikely that you'll get yelled at, watch a person cry, hear the crying person's questions and accusations.

Anyway, seriously, I kind of wasnt kidding about the CattyShack night.
of course, first go somewhere nice to talk, have some drinks, in a quiet refined place (again, this is if you girls want to stay in the neighborhood)
take her to Tempo, drink, chat, eat if you'd like, the staff is wonderful and its a great well rounded place. again, the wine list is extensive and the bar is pretty big in comparison to other restaurant bars. Then, heck, see if she wants to go to Catty, tell her for shits and giggles. Somewhere you girls can go, have fun, listen to music, dance if you want to - in a non threatening atmosphere. if she's hot I'm sure she'll get hit on a couple of times and might enjoy the ego boost. hell I still laugh when guys hit on me

and I'm a big ol lesbo.

I tried out Bar Reis last week and it was damned good. A variety of places to hang, a fair pour for your buck and the food was even edible.

I guess I'm saying GET DRUNK. Bitch about everything. Replace the figurative poison in your system with the literal kind. Cheer isn't necessary - Merlin Olsen ain't gonna show up with no Pick-Me-Up Bouquet.
