what are the ranges people pay for renovation? — Brooklynian

what are the ranges people pay for renovation?

I was just reading a article on nytimes about how much these guys paid for their reno and most of them are below 200 bucks per sq ft.

what is the range say for expensive and average(200 bucks according to nytimes) and inexpensive?

just redid the math i guess i pay above average.

  • i don't know about average for nyc, but wasn't the figure quoted in the article a national average? nyc is more expensive for everything.
  • It depends on who you have as a contractor.

I have designed places in Brooklyn and the average for class A construction has been in the range of 100-150 dollars a square foot and this is with a reliable, licensed, fully insured contractor.

You can get realiable, un-licensed, un-insured contractors for 50 dollars a square foot.

This all depends on how you want your place done and the price will always vary.
  • also, you might have already seen this, but there's a whole discussion on that subject on brownstoner: http://brownstoner.com/brownstoner/archives/2006/08/renovating_on_t.html#comments
