WOMAN ROBBED 7PM ON CORNER CLASSON / ST MARKS ACROSS NEPTUNE DINER
Yesterday (Thur.) around 7pm or so I was talking to the Muslim woman who sells oils, books, dvd's and used clothes on Classon Ave. near the corner of St. Marks (across from Neptune DINER/ THE SCHOOL) when a guy (tall, African American, fairly good looking, clean cut, well dressed)came over to her table. She asked if he was interested in any dvd's and he said "Nah, I'm good," and sounded nervous. He stood there for a few minutes, left and walked toward Neptune, then came back, stood there silently, left, and came back again. We stopped talking for a minute, both of us nervous because he was acting suspicious just standing there listening to our conversation. When she turned back toward me to talk, he grabbed her cell phone which was on her table and ran toward Park Place. She said she recognized him and said "he's a feminine gay guy I've seen around the neighborhood". If anyone has also been robbed by someone who fits this description or has information pls post.

Do we have a better and less homophobic description of the guy? About how tall are we talking 5'10-6'? Heavy set or thin? Hair color ect.?
-
yes that description would cover just about every guy in the neighborhood. Any particular hairdo? Did you call the police? Have you heard about all the thefts of smartphones everywhere? Sorry to hear about the theft but ....
-
Sorry about the theft but please remember rule one for cells and pretty much everything else! Rule 1: Protect your shit!

Newguy, I agree, she could have used a less homophobic way of describing him, but I should have been more sensitive in the way I retold what occurred. I apologize. Since my back was to him as I looked at the books and speaking to her and he was directly behind me, I didn't really get a good look at him, and those were the details she gave. And yes, I think she called the police.

I do not want to take this off-topic but I do not understand how feminine gay man is considered homophobic. Is it the use of feminine or the use of gay?

No worries travelriter!

Was it necessary for her to say either? What reason did the victim have any reason to suspect the guy was gay? Or if so a feminine gay guy? Probably none. Adding them serves to degrade, criminalize and denormanilize an already marginalized and harassed group.

Thanks for your reply. I thought she said she knew him from around the neighborhood. Good to know. I guess I am not as sensitive as I thought I was since I have described some of my gay friends as effeminate.

Some folks are offended by terms others are not.
