HOT DAMN! Helio's Cheeseburger, MANGIA!
Subject: HOT DAMN! Helio's Cheeseburger, MANGIA!
ok, is it just me or do these guys make a mean burger?for 6 bucks they hooked me up with a Black Angus fat ass burger, on a brioche roll, cheddar cheese, mixed field greens and, this is key, a few slices of perfectly sliced AND rippened tomatoe. ok, additionally it came with some sliced onion and a pickle wedge but I flung those to the curb...(not literally, no worries sanitation police)
for those of you non meat eaters, their veggie burger is pretty decent AND tasty as well, NOT a frozen hockey puck, made fresh (I think homemade but dont quote me)
Also had a side order of hummus that was nice and chunky, just like I like it!
anyone else dig Helio's....anyone else know of a NEIGHBORHOOD burger that can put this one to shame?
Helio's 6th and St. Marks

It's actually Helios and is a Greek restaurant owned by Aristos Tzammos. The funny thing is that when it first opened is was called Elios but they had to change it 'cause a place in Manhattan already had the name and raised hell.
Did you have the fries w/oregano too?
Great burger for sure - no other like it in PS/PH. You should also try the burgers at The Good Fork in Red Hook, Peter Lugers, and DuMont on Union Ave in Williamsburg -

Didn't I say "Helio's"? LOL ahhhhh, I see, it's my apostrophe that troubles you...and my "mangia" which makes you think I'm that dumb that I could order a gyro from an Italian restaurant
(Trixie = Italian = "Mangia", capice?!)
I didnt have fries this time but, yes, those are fantastic. so flavourful. dig the onion rings too, but those will surely clog an artery. yum. perfect hangover food. -
I've had that very cheeseburger -- satisfying, and a favorite with some friends on the block.

their octopus is AMAZING. everyone on this board must try it!
they also have a nice plate of 3 greek spreads for $7 which is quite the deal -

Yea, so far everything I've had from there is pretty damn good and very reasonable. I crave their burgers though, mind you I can grill myself one at home. The Brioche seeded roll makes a world of difference.

Also, try their Horta! Never noticed they had octopus as well, I usually just go straight for the burger. how's the atmosphere? I've only done take-out so far. -

Don't you mean it's a Hellenic restaurant?

Thanks for the link. I wasn't serious about the "Hellenic" thing. It's a long-running joke dating back to the original (capital letters) Anonymous Guest. Here's the original thread about this:

82 Sixth Ave. at St. Marks Avenue in Park Slope -
Jamzer wrote: Where is this place?
corner of 6th ave + St Mark's
the owner is usually there. he's a big guy. real friendly and talkative
if he likes ya, he'll give you a free shot of this greek liqueur
that has an aftertaste like dishwater
if he doesn't like you. i don't know what he'll do :P -
I went there this afternoon and tried the cheeseburger, but it must have been an off day for them because it tasted like lighter fluid - I probably ordered the first burger right after they flamed up the grill or something. I'll try it again, though, because last time I went there the grilled chicken sandwich was excellent. My husband had the sausage souvlaki and really liked it. I only wish they had moved there two years ago when we lived just five doors away! That's what we get for moving.
