Say it ain't so....

This is a joke, right? We don't have any other chains in the neighborhood, so this seems off. Or is it the first whiff of the arena influence? :?

bingo!!!! i have a feeling alot of flatbush is going to be the first to change...note mama dukes...closed...biscuit...for sale... -
Isn't that location ridiculously large for a Burritoville? I can't imagine it more filled than City Lighting...
-
Ohh no. Ohhhhhh no.
-
I wouldn't mind a burritoville - large affordable yummy burritos. And it's not a multinational chain, it's a local chain. At least it's not chipotles or taco bell.
-
The guy to ask for info is Mike, the owner of Charcuterie. The guy who's starting the mexican place goes to him for sandwiches.
As I posted on another thread, the rent there is 10K/month and according to Mike, the new guy is "scared" about how he's gonna make it work. I would be too. That's a lot of margaritas. -
if he's worried about making it work, tell him you cant go wrong with outstanding service and fresh lime juice (not sour mix) in the margaritas.

Soda bar makes awsome margarita with fresh lime juice
-
Like Isa, I would love to have a Burritoville in the neighborhood. But I think that Candicissima is correct - the space seems much too large for one of their restaurants.

oooh good to know! -
I live right near what was once City Lighting and we've all discussed how it's allegedly going to be a mexican place and that we're dubious about its ability to succeed but I'd like to open the topic up to what bits of decor are currently available for viewing.
From what I see, there's a neon "open" sign with a peace sign in the "o" and some pictures of Jimi Hendrix on the walls and some pink lighting fixtures that look tacky. Also, some primary color things on the back door ramp.
I was kind of hopeful when the new windows went in that the place might at least look good, but now I'm losing hope. It looks tacky. 80's-esque maybe.
It's looking like it's going to be yet another San Francisco-summer-of-love burrito joints. Is it going to try to compete with the Taqueria?
Isa: when it fails, put your veggie joint there. Have yummy salads for all. -

While I agree that the neo-hippy shit is cheezy, if the food is as good as Taqueria, I'll welcome it with open arms.

It's five blocks away from the Taqueria. Surely that's too close. Taqueria delivers.
Their margeritas are going to have to be awfully good. -
Oh. I was already getting weirded out by the OPEN sign and the Hendrix stuff sounds worse. I saw them working on the windows the other day and wanted to ask somebody what the deal was, but we were in a hurry. :?

Subject: Too early to conclude
Too much money is being spent on this place for it to look cheeszy. I think this place is going to be one cool joint. Spoke to the owner, Gregory who owns a restaurant in the City. He appeared to be a sophiscated guy. Can't wait for the place to open. -
Did he say what restaurant he owns? Just curious.
-
He owns a Mexican restaurant called Burito somewhere on the Eastside, I believe.
-
This place reminds me of El Loco in Williamsburg.
If the burritos at the old City Lighting place are half as good as what one can get in San Francisco, then the place should do just fine. I'm looking forward to trying it out. -

Yep, most traces of City Lighting are now wiped away... stucco'ed over, I think... -
Subject: New Rest in CityLighting Space
Just moved to PH 2 months ago. . .I am enjoying acquainting myself with this site:
After reading this string of posts. . .I can offer some limited info--
There is a hippie throwback mexican restaurant in Tribeca called
Burrito Bar-- it too is a rather large space. There is also a Burrito Bar in Staten Island.
From what I understand. . .it was a husband/wife team that split up and each keeping one location.
Previous visits to the Tribeca location have garnered lackluster memories. ..fair at best. But then again, I am a transplanted Texan who loves Tex-Mex. ..so, i guess you can call me picky. -
I used to go to that place in the early 90s. My previous comments about lame-o retro tacky decor stand. I'm not looking forward to this.
Howdy, Stranger!
