    I'll give them credit for putting a lot of work into the site's layout and first edition.

    ....time will tell whether advertisers will support this "newspaper on line" where readers can only comment.

    How will it be prevented from becoming simply an online version of the Brooklyn Paper?

    .....by seeking volunteer writers, will journalism fall further?
    Will The Patch stick to inoffensive articles on the green market, or be taken over by people with agendas?

    Maybe a dribble-off in the future?

    I'm quite pleased with the Prospect Heights Patch so far. The Charter Commission ballot question is an important and complicated issue that has been largely ignored in the print and online media. Brooklyn Paper is sorely understaffed, and even their police blotter usually leaves out our police precinct.

    The more coverage of Prospect Heights, the better. That's why we... I mean I think.

    ...the Editor is leaving and does not believe a new person will be hired to fill the position.

    AOL is owner of the Patch sites and they're losing money on them so many, if not all of them may be discontinued. With all the blogs and news outlets on line it's tough to stand out and get those advertising dollars needed to keep running.

    According to Bloomberg.com AOL is laying off 500 employees which is about 50% of the Patch workforce. 350 are being let go today and about 150 are being asked to stay another 60 days. There are 900 Patch sites and 400 will be shut down or AOL will try to find partners for them. Patch's revenue was about $35 million last year but it cost (believe it or not) anywhere from $126 million to $162 million to run it.

    Yes, after being online for over 2 years, our local Patch had less than 1000 Facebook followers.

    I think this was in part because they had content restrictions which kept them away from publishing anything too controversial.

    ...controversial generates interest and readership.

    O-M-G, that audio is amazing. Brooklynian has certainly outlasted Abel.

    DNA.info is doing an ok job of covering the PH and Western CH.

    It would be nice if someone besides "us" stepped up and covered the area between Franklin and Kingston.
