Looking to rent on Utica Ave Brooklyn?

Hi

Me and my girlfriend are looking for an apartment and we saw a nice place on Utica Ave and I would like to know if it's safe I know it was a bad neighborhood in the past but do you know if it changed recently?

Please local people only

Thanks

  • If you're not involved in gangs or the drug trade, and don't hang out in the street at night, it's reasonably safe.

    Will it be pleasant? No.

  • Utica and what? There are differences in the area depending on whether you are looking at the north side of EP or the south side. One thing I would note is that there appear to be a significant number of shootouts (one every six or seven months) that occur outside the Utica Avenue subway station which may make your commute interesting at best.

Google "Utica Avenue and Eastern Parkway shooting"

  • Utica Avenue is a long street that runs for miles, from Fulton Street all the way to Kings Plaza. Do you have an address or cross street? That would help to better answer your question.

  • I assume if the OP was looking for Utica at King's Plaza, they wouldn't have posted about it in Crown Heights.

  • Not a safe assumption. As we have all seen, people often are not knowledgable about neighborhood boundaries and realtors will lie about where a given apartment is located (e.g. advertising a building on Franklin as "Park Slope", which I have seen more than a few times over the years).

Regardless, my main point is that knowing the exact location would help to better answer the question.
