Exploring the Crown Jewel — Brooklynian

Exploring the Crown Jewel

So yeah, that is a terrible nickname, but that article got me thinking that I have a free weekend and have never explored past Washington Ave.

I would like to take a bike ride around the neighborhood - any tips for the best route? I'd love to go see those mansions on President and Carroll. Any particular blocks that shouldn't be missed? Any blocks to avoid?

Thanks!

  • Cycling through Crown Heights (and Brooklyn, in general) is great. I usually ride down Park Place until I hit Rockaway Avenue. Eastern Parkway has a bike path, too. There's a lot of intersting architecture, including old synagogues (check out the one on the corner of Park Place and Kingston Avenue). The mansions mentioned in the article are south of Eastern Parkway, in the vicinity of Kingston Avenue. They're quite a sight!
