Obama to Visit Crown Heights School — Brooklynian

Obama to Visit Crown Heights School

Comments

  • If you were planning on going anywhere in the borough on Friday forget about it.

  • Anyone want to guess the motorcade route from Prospect Park to Albany and Dean?

The test landing of Marine 1 and 2 helos was (curiously) on the ballfields - opposite end of the park from Crown Heights. Maybe a decoy site?

Common sense (and vanity/aesthetics!) would suggest the motorcade exits the park at Grand Army Plaza, takes beautiful Eastern Parkway to Kingston, then a left on Kingston, right on Dean, and one block to the school. Or screw it - make the left on Albany going the wrong way; the SS will clearly have the street cleared either way.

Or blow everyone's minds and take POTUS down Atlantic?

  • I have heard it will be Empire to Kingston.

  • Oh, or one could Google it (at risk of the NSA showing up at one's door) and find out the official route is:

Prospect Park > Empire Boulevard > Kingston

Apparently directness takes priority over scenery.

  • It is ironic that this route takes him through one of the least Democratic areas of Brooklyn.

  • I don't know. I don't think the Lubavitch of Kingston Ave. are very Republican. Conservative when it comes to religion but not much else.

  • It is relative.

I am not stating that they are not Democratic relative to, say, parts of Texas.

  • There's no parking on Kingston all the way from Empire to Atlantic, so I think Whynot's right about the route.

  • I think it is safe to predict that pictures of Obama shaking the Principal's hand will be hung in P-Tech starting on Monday, and lasting beyond 2050.

  • Oops, should've read notsayin's post first. Also just read in an email from the Brower Park farmer's market that the NYPD advised Kingston Ave and the park would be closed from 2-5. Neighbors, get your cameras ready.

  • FWIW I had to run an errand in eastern Queens today. I went, @ 10:30 via Eastern Pkwy and the Jackie Robinson PKWY. I returned, @ 12:00, via the JR PKWY and Eastern Pkwy to Albany Ave to E. New York Ave to Brooklyn Ave to Midwood St., only a slight change from my usual route. I had no problems either way. I did not try to pass Kingston Avenue on Eastern Pkwy.

  • Oh Boy! Crown heights is really on the map now.
