  • I would love to attend Mondays from 1-3. Feel free to reach me here or at [email protected]. Thanks!

  • Thank you for your interest in the writing workshop. Our first daytime meeting will be at Lazy Ibis Cafe, 663 Franklin Ave. (corner of St. Marks) next Monday, Nov. 18th from 1-3pm. The evening workshop will begin Wednesday Nov. 20th at Nimba Cafe, 621 St. John's (corner of Franklin Ave.) from 7:30-9:30pm.

Each week we will begin with a writing prompt which members are free to use or ignore and select their own topics. We will also share work from the previous week, or from projects we are working on. For the first week please feel free to bring something you would like feedback on. Depending on how many members we have, we will share between 2-4 pages each.

The type of feedback we will give is the sandwich technique where we begin by saying something positive we enjoyed overall about the piece, followed by particular lines or sections that stood out for us. We can discuss dialogue, plot, setting or anything that we feel the author did exceptionally well. Next, we will talk about questions we have or give suggestions for improvement, ending with final praise about what worked best in the piece. During feedback, the author will sit in silence, listening and taking notes, but is not allowed to participate in the discussion. When members are finished, the author may ask for further clarification, but cannot defend or explain their work.

Since the cafe is new and fairly small, our group will be limited.

We still have several spaces available for both workshops. Please spread the word.

I look forward to seeing you next week!

  • Since Lazy Ibis had an electrical issue on Monday, they were closed and we had to move our first meeting to Nimba Cafe. I left a note posted on their window, but I apologize if anyone showed up and did not realize we had to meet elsewhere. We will meet next Monday at Lazy Ibis from 1-3pm.

    Please join us!

  • Also, due to the holidays several people have requested that we begin meeting in January. We have decided that while we will officially begin the 8-week sessions after the holidays, those who are eager to start writing now are welcome to join us now at Nimba or Lazy Ibis (or both!).

If you will be away for the holidays but would like to attend the meetings in January, please let me know here or at travelriter at aoldotcom.
