Physical therapist recommendation for lower back

I am new to the neighborhood. I am looking for a PT. I checked the one out at the Methodist Hospital and it looked like an airport waiting area, crowded and impersonal. Any suggestions? Thank you!

  • Karen Thomas on 8th Avenue near Union. She is excellent, and helped me when my back went out.

  • methodist is in fact terrible. I went there for two visits and they did nothing. the people at the front desk were literally eating Chinese food and lauding loudly while i was waiting for my appointment. They also never charged me for either visit.

I highly recommend the following (neither are immediately nearby, but both are worth the travel):

Brooklyn Health Physical Therapy: they are on 20th st between 3rd and 4th. Matt is very personable and understanding, and he used to work at methodist. The focus is on strengthening and stretching, not immediate relief. I went for several ongoing visits and he is also good with early morning and evening appointments.

Hands on Physical Therapy: 3rd ave and like 80th in Bay Ridge. They are all about immediate relief, they give you strengthening and stretching activities to do on your own time and they focus on making you feel better while you are there. A lot of massage, and electro stimulation. I only went for two appointments, both were during normal business hours.

  • Southwest Physical Therapy in Windsor Terrace. They do myofascial release. I like them both: a husband and wife team, Michael and Aracelli.

  • Thanks everyone for the recommendations.
