The Chinese place next to Joyce is turning into something. I heard a rumor of a "sustainable" fish store. Anyone else?

  • Yup.

We got a tip about that about a month ago:

Your wish has been granted! Mark and Bianca at Mermaid's Garden, a CSF around Brooklyn, are planning to open a brick and mortar on Vanderbilt. They're building out this summer so hopefully we'll have fresh, amazing fish in the fall.

Readers are looking forward to it!

  • That's great.....that space (or maybe the Joyce Bakery space?) was a fresh fish store about 20 years ago....

  • Yes, Joyce Bakeshop used to be a fish store approximately pre 2005.

The new fish place will right next to Joyce. Here's a mini photo of the storefront that the new fish place will be using:

  • The actual address is 644 Vanderbilt Avenue, near Park Place.

  • Hooray! We will be customers!

  • Mermaid's Garden opens tomorrow, Tuesday Dec 2!

(The sign says they'll open at noon. I couldn't get the uploaded image to display.)

  • A friend went, and reports "yup, they have fish".

Said fish will be eaten for dinner.

  • I got the frozen uni butter, to be enjoyed with a baguette.

  • They had some lobster mac and cheese that I think I will splurge on soon mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
