Handy-person needed - esp. someone w/ experience w/ gas
here's the deal:
I bought a fridge and range from home depot. they're delivering on saturday. I need some help with the things they *won't* do:
- they won't unhook my old range from the gas line
- if I don't unhook the old range from the gas line, they won't haul it away
- they won't hook up the new range to the gas line
- they won't make the fridge doors open on the other side of the fridge
what they will do:
- carry a new fridge and new range up 3 flights of stairs
- carry an old fridge and old range down 3 flights of stairs
- call me 1 hour before they show up
so ... does anyone have any rec's of people who will charge me not a whole lot and help me with this stuff? and who can be called with an hour notice (max) and show up to unhook/rehook/rehang? and won't blow me up with the gas line?
thanks!!

You should ask your super. Most supers will do that kind of thing for a reasonable price.

I don't have a super ... teeny tiny building.

Cancel your Home Depot order and use J&R on 7th Ave.. They'll do the door thing on the fridge. They'll remove your old stuff as well. You'll have to hire a plumber for the stove.

unless you have a bad back, you can do the fridge thing yourself -- it's kinda fun. (and my dad's big trick when visiting people who have theirs open inconveniently)
you'll need a screw driver. your fridge has little caps covering up the extra set of holes (on the side away from the current hinge). take them out. unscrew doors and the triangular metal things they attach to. reapply on opposite side. replace caps.
it's much less messy if you empty your fridge door first.
(obviously, if someone's coming over anyway, there's no reason not to have that person do this for you. i just mean that you might not have to pay someone just for that if you don't want to.) -
Reading the title of the thread, I thought I was going to be able to help - but unfortunately I have experience with a different sort of gas.

I agree. I fear you will have trouble finding someone who knows (and is licensed) to deal with the gas.
I love J&R. I bet they'll beat Hime Depot's price if you give them the make and model number.
I used a company called AAA range service to fix a problem with my stove once. They were just fine. I think the number is 877-222-5220. They should be able to deal with the installation. I don't know who you can get to take all that stuff away from the curb.
