Within the next one to three years, Fairway will open its largest store yet on the Red Hook waterfront. Whole Foods plans to move in at 3rd Street and Third Avenue.
Here's the latest info on the Whole Foods Market (from their Website,) which would be bigger than the one planned for Union Square:
220 3rd St, while not actually Park Slope, is near where the Staples is. Not sure what else is near there, except a large USPS facility and a bunch of 1 story industrial buildings in the Gowanus Canal area.
220 3rd Street
Brooklyn, NY
52,000 sq. ft.
Opening date to be announced. -
ahh, excelllent. thanks.

Just so everyone is aware. They broke ground last weak on the Whole Foods Construction. Yeah

Yes. It's on 3rd and 3rd, and scheduled to open in Spring of 2005.
It's very easily recognizable by the big Hazmat sign on it's gate. The site is nowhere near clean, and they have no permits to build right now.
I'd get familiar with the Fairway. Better prices, happy employees. MUCH better view. -
I have friend who has a MOm who is exec at Whole Foods.. What I hear is that the expectation of the opening is Brooklyn is a long time coming because of the probelems in clearing the site environmentally.
No issues with Ikea in that was...we will see that one sooner rather than later. I am not too sure how I feel about that one..lol!
Now Whole Foods.. yeah I am intrugued even if the store is built over a toxic wasteland!! I am not saying I would shop there. I am only appreciating the irony of the situation. Who knows?.. perhaps all of Brooklyn is a Toxic dump.. but I love it anyway. -

The Ikea wasn't built on a hazmat site. That was the difference. And it didn't go through that quickly, with no argument. They were challenged every step of the way.

Bottom line is no one wants the "downscale" stores - Ikea, McDonalds (which is rumored to be opening on Smith Street). Carroll Gardens fought feverishly to stop the Dunkin Donuts. Yet there are god knows how many American Apparel stores and starbucks. Everyone says Yay! to Trader Joes.
I admit i am not on the Whole Foods bandwagon, as it is yet another big box store. Besides, the McDonalds on 4th avenue offers a higher starting salary than the Whole Foods will. -
Yes absolutely right... IKEA was not built on a hazmat site and was not the intention of Whole Foods to "choose" such a site.. just happened and for sure they are not too happy about that reality or that image.
I don't want any of the Downscale stores... except those that I would shop in.. (LOl.. at my own hypocracy!) and I will shop in Whole Foods. -

I appreciate your self-deprecation, but abhor your ethic. sorry.
