Providence Day Spa

Has anyone been to Providence Day Spa for massage? How is it?

Or, can anyone recommend a spa in Park Slope? I am taking my best friend for her 30th, and want it to be special. Thanks!

  • I've been to D'mai on 5th Ave a few times and thought their services were excellent.

    Here's their website: http://www.dmaiurbanspa.com/
  • Subject: mostly good...

I like providence for facials and massage (although i had one weird experience there where the masseuse was sort of unresponsive but the owner promptly made up for it and gave me a free massage). I did have a irritation from a lip wax but again the owner was very receptive to what i told her and said she would take into acct my suggestions (of the best way to do it - how not to get irritation on skin, etc.) and said she had a new esthetician coming in who would be great to check out. the new place on atlantic ave is very pretty and relaxing. the facial i had in the old space was great.

i've been to d'mai spa - i had a lip wax there too (not bad...) and maybe once a massage. it's not as much my scene. providence uses mostly organic and natural and i like its non-hipster lowkey vibe. d'mai is more 'urban' and sleek but both have competent services (if from time to time, various quality).
  • I love Sage Spa on 5th Avenue. Here's their website: www.Sagebrooklyn.com

    gak! I hate shilling.

DSDNYC just bumped four very old threads all over the site to promote Sage. That's enough to make me NOT go there.

I've had pretty good luck with different people at Opal on Fifth Ave, so I haven't gone to any of the other neighborhood spots.
  • Subject: sage spa

not to be off-topic, but i did NOT like sage spa when i went there for a massage.
  • ummmm..I don't get it, on their site, under aromatherapy...uh...let's see, you pay $225.00 to smell essential oils? I do that at Back to the Land for free!!

This is an old post; but, trolling the internet, I found it. Your comment about $225 to "smell essential oils" is erroneous. I'm the owner of Sage and that $225 was for a complete consultation in which an original perfume or aromatherapy blend was created for the buyer. It involved an hour's initial consultation and one or two followups. You should be more careful before posting unkind and untrue comments.

  • its sad that this site applauds whining and complaining to such a high degree but once someone goes out of their way to rave numerous times about a business its shilling.

People who own businesses dont usually have time for this bullshit, its people who have way to much time on their hands who usually accuse.

FYI both Opal and Sage are fabulous and well worth it - if your looking for a cheap massage go to chinatown.

You are incorrect. DSDNYC was shilling. That poster has posted exactly 4 times on Brooklynian, all 4 times to rave about that spa, and never about any other topic. That's not just a regular user who was impressed by a spa's service. That is someone who's trying to get a buzz going about their place.
  • I went to Element on 5th (up near Bergen maybe?) last year during spa week and was really pleased with the service.
  • I really enjoyed Sage the one and only time i was there, but am completely turned off the business by what carnivore said. Who wants to go somewhere that is only talked about by someone undercover for the company.
  • I just went to Sage for the first time two weeks ago and I liked it. It's very homey, and I felt really good after my 75 minute massage. It was typical of all spas where they play lame music with drums, but whatever. The table was heated and people were nice. It's not as sleek as some spas I've been to, but I am an all-inclusive spa fan - I hit up the cheap Chinese massage near work on a more regular basis.

I probably wouldn't go there for a facial (They don't do extractions, so I trek to Mari Badescu where they kick my pores' ass!) but for a basic massage, it's not a bad deal. I only wish they accepted Spa Finder gift certificates, but I heard D'mai does.

And no, I don't work there.

unkind? untrue? how bout just funny? oh, i guess that would be under the "unkind" headline. 8) Ya wouldn't think people would actually take my snarky comment literally-do ya?
