  • When I called the DMV a helpful but somewhat discouraging rep gave me the news: there are “many” (she’s “not allowed” to give me a number) complaints about this place. But it takes hundreds of complaints to shut a car repair garage down.
  • only an idiot would go to this shop if they had read these boards, rest assured.

  • Subject: Cobble Hill Totally Rox!!!

Last week, my car was towed to Cobble Hill station through triple AAA. I had a 2004 Honda that wouldn’t start and I wasn’t sure why. I was kinda of panicking about it cause I love my HONDA and it is my only means of transportation between school and work. During this time I went online and read the reviews for this place and starting having an anxiety attack. Some of the reviews were not so good and quite frankly I really hoped that i wasn’t gonna get screwed out of money that I didn’t have! The tow guy was very polite and nice to me but hey you still never know. Anyway, the next day I recieved a called from someone who worked there and he said that I needed a new fuel pump. I asked him “Is that it?” he said ” Yes Honey” and told me that I could even pick the car up after 5pm that day. I was confused because some of the reviews about this station said that it is a ripp off. The mechanic was in a perfect position to screw me out of money and he didn’t! I didn’t question it and picked up my car and thanked GOD!!! In return I am posting this review on several sites because I feel that people should also read about my GOOD experience with Cobble Hill on Atlantic and Henry!!!:)
  • how come its always the ones with no posts or record here that compliment this chop shop extraordinaire. go anywhere else but there. anywhere.
  • Popstar, yes I am new to this and yes this is my first post but that doesn't not mean that I am not entitled to my opinion. The same way that you spoke about your experience with Cobble Hill I am allowed to voice about mine as well. It is my constitional right to excerise this. To imply otherwise is insulting and degrading.
I am not pleading with anyone to go to this service station but I will not deny that I was quite satisfied with them.
  • well there you have it. free speech does work . you are correct. lets tally the votes now..........dozens of nays and one yes. the nays have it. go anywhere else. anywhere.
  • STAY AWAY! THESE PEOPLE ARE LIARS AND CROOKS!

My girlfriend needed a jump yesterday and called AAA. When the tow truck arrived he claimed the battery was dangerous and he couldn't jump it. He told her it would need to be towed. When she asked for it to be taken to Firestone (we have a Firestone card) he told her he could tow it to his garage for free, but it would cost $90 to tow to another garage (Which isn't true, AAA will tow for 3 miles or under without charge). Once at Cobble Hill service center they ran a diagnostic ($70) and told her she needed a new battery, alternator, brake pads and struts. Complete B.S. She called Firestone and they recommended another tow company. When we called them they said it was the third time this month they've had AAA customers call to have their cars removed from this garage.

When we went to pay the diagnostic and get the keys I asked the manager (Tony I believe) what the diagnostic involved and he immediately flew off the handle. He told me they "hooked up a voltmeter" and mumbled something. He wouldn't give me a straight answer about anything they did and got angrier and angrier. Then, as we were paying the "diagnostic fee" he asked me if "I had a problem" because I was staring at him, he jumped up, stuck his finger in face and told me we could take it outside and "fix the problem". His breath reeked of alcohol (it was 3 in the afternoon) and it was just so bizarre I couldn't believe it. It was how I imagine people in prison act. He was like a rabid animal. My girlfriend asked him what his problem was and he said "You come back here and see how he's staring at me..."

The funny thing is once we got the keys the car started just fine. We were able to drive it to Firestone where they ran a real diagnostic, showed us that the old battery wasn't charging properly and needed to be replaced. The alternator was fine and the brake pads had plenty of life left in them.

Cobble Hill Service station should be avoided at all costs. These people are hostile, thieving filth. We are filing a complaint about them with AAA, Shell Oil, the BBB and the DMV. DO NOT GO THERE!
  • Subject: THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN!!

**WARNING** STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

I took my vehicle to the Cobblehill Super Service station on the corner of Atlantic and Henry for the NYS emissions inspection.
WARNING: This guy is in the business of ripping people off!!!

About 2 hours after I dropped the car off I received a call from a Tony, who proceeded to ramble on quickly about what was wrong with my vehicle, which added up to $441 worth of issues. First off, I purchased this car from a family friend in Florida and my father owns a shop in Florida and had new tires, brakes, oil change, new alternator (the whole nine yards) performed before I drove it back up to NYC. I then had our shop mechanic call Tony and explain to him what was done on the vehicle. Tony quickly backtracked on the issues with the car and the $441 estimate dropped down to $250. He then became extremely aggravated over the phone call and began to get aggressive with my boyfriend and I. He even went as far as calling my boyfriend names and screaming across the shop asking us to leave. We would have loved to leave, but we needed to pay the $37 fee to get our keys back! I tried to give him $40, but he kept telling me I needed to wait for a receipt. In the mean time he continued to scream violently at my boyfriend and I finally said, "Just take my money! I don't need a receipt." I just wanted to get out of there at this point. I felt very uneasy and even felt like my life might be in danger at this point.

Tony is not only scamming people left and right, he is extremely volatile and irate! I contacted the DMV shortly after I got home and a woman there looked up the shop in the system and was shocked to see how many complaints have been filed on this place. Please do not give this place your business.
  • Subject: CitySearch SHILL'S

Cobble Hill Super Service seem to be up to their old tricks at CitySearch.

I found these people post allot of 5 star ratings for multiple businesses all over the United States. These posters seem to be shill's.
I rely on CitySearch to find quality goods and services. A flag went up when I saw a business that receives mostly poor ratings (Cobble Hill Super Service), get so many 5 star ratings within a few months by these individuals:

Did you look at the first guys profile? He gives everything 5 stars!! From mechanics to schools in Texas!! Too bad City Search doesn't have that function that Yelp does where they won't include your reviews if you think the account is fake. I would start reporting those comments for abuse as it's obvious they're spam.
  • when i had AAA i used their services but im also mechanically inclined and before the guy could get a word out of his mouth i told him what i wanted and he knew he couldnt put one over on me, Ive yet to have anyone put a wrench to my car but me... ( i only had AAA cause the one time i left the lights on or had a flat would be the time i was all dressed up to go out for the evening)
  • Subject: tony sucks

the owner is a their a con artist and mean. throw your car away before you go to this rathole.
  • Wow, I can't believe this place is still open. I almost got ripped off by this guy a few years ago. So glad I got my car out of there. Sounds like he's really lost his mind.

  • I've read the comments about the apparently controversial CHSS and I have to say my experience was not quite so negative. Although their gas is the most expensive around, they have been nothing but nice and accomodating of all of my car issues. Right before they did the renovations to the tanks, my 1997 Camry was hit while parked. I drove it over to CHSS, where they estimated the damage at over $800 (more than the car was worth and a very reasonable estimate in my layman's opinion).

After I told Tony that the repairs weren't worth it, he let me store the car in his lot for 3 days while I found a junk-car dealer that would pay me $200 for it. When I tried to tip him for the service, he laughed me off. In my experience, the guy is a class act, although I've never actually had repairs done there.

  • Fraud abounds on CitySearch

    by Exposing lies at Citysearch

Well, it remains to be seen about CHSS, Inc, but the one star is for the reliability of the "five-star" reviews on this site. After I experienced an incident identical to what many have described on Yelp (AAA towed to CHSS and suddenly a 2005 car that was recently purchased needed $700 worth of work, including a new alternator, battery,...) I looked online. If you look at ALL reviews that are five stars, you'll find people who are listed as living outside of Brooklyn (and sometimes even New York) who have numerous 5-star reviews for places all around the country. Many of these reviews are for car dealers or service stations where they somehow received service on their multiple cars in multiple states in the same month.

The unfavorable reviews are locals who have often reviewed other places in the neighborhood.

    Judge for yourself.

    Boo to CitySearch. Read Yelp.

  • So a couple things for the record:

    1. The Yelp reviews on Cobble Hill Super Service are overwhelmingly "lowest possible." CHSS rates a very solid 1 out of 5 stars, and many of the reviews were from late 2010. There are only two positive reviews that I could find, both of which have been filtered out by Yelp's filter system designed to weed out "bad apple" posts: http://www.yelp.com/biz/cobblehill-super-service-brooklyn

    2. Citysearch reviews in general seem very suspicious to me - with the "review fraud" I have seen on that site, I can only give my STRONGEST CAUTION against using Citysearch for anything useful. Citysearch appears to be promoting reviews written by cheaters who are gaming the review system. Look for yourself at the user profiles: the SAME Brooklyn businesses get promoted over and over by "5 star raters" that are not even geographically located near Brooklyn.

    3. Brooklynian has been the victim of a "review fraud" campaign where somebody posted a number of glowing reviews for Cobble Hill Super Service.

    4. If a glowing review for Cobble Hill Super Service shows up in the next day or so in this spot... don't say I didn't warn you.
