yea, what happened with nalani? wasn't there too long. never went there... maybe others didn't either and that was the problem?
-
omg omg omg i love korean bbq!!!! they are so rare outside of ethnic areas!!!
-
Nalani only lasted a few months, unfortunately, I have no idea why. This will be a stellar addition to Vanderbilt!
-
They better give those free lil' appetizer dishes as a free perk.
-
I am so excited! I hope they give a good amount of pan chan (the little appetizer dishes) and that they have a few vegetarian options.
ANd a lunch special. I could see eating there for lunch a whole lot. -
Oooh, can't wait. Perhaps we should have an outing? Perhaps in conjunction with an A_W sighting?

Yes! This has to happen!
Does anyone know if the place has a liquor license? Otherwise, I can bring soju (I've got almost a case of it). -
aha... so those rumors from last year weren't rumors after all.

This is pretty remarkable. Are there any Korean BBQs at all in Brooklyn right now?? -

I've been there. The food really sucks. What they lack in cooking skills they make up with a ton of sugar in every dish. It's in the 90's on 3rd Ave I believe. -

There's a Korean place (not a barbeque) on Myrtle near Pratt. It also serves sushi. It will satisfy a bibimbop craving in a pinch.

is it cheap? cause i'm broke and i do want korean :P. -
did someone say soju? where does one come by a case of it?
so perfect, by the caseload, with that korean sashimi salad that's rare in these parts (it's a bounty of sashimi and seaweed and lettuce with a hot sesame sauce mixed in. i forget the name, except it ends in "bop." :-). it would almost be too good to be true if they had that. -

It's moderately priced. Follow this link to get the menu. It's called Sushi Okdol.

Sje, thanks for the update, I thought it was a lost dream. I'm so glad I'm not a vegetarian (the "V" word). Do you know if they'll have those open BBQ tables? That would great for parties. -
Subject: DeeDee
So, are they going to be open tonight 9/13? -

Queens.
Astor Wines, downtown
Lafayette and 4th St
they're really working the sake/soju thing at the new location -
Please someone who went tonight, please post a review!
I looked in the other day and was a little sad to see no BBQ tables. I had just been to the Korean restaurant in Williamsburg (Dokebi) that does have them and they seemed really cool. You could cover them up if you weren't doing any grilling. The ability to grill seemed like it would make it a nice date place since, if you ran out of things to say you could just concentrate on your grilling.
So I really want to know about this new place. I thought the price of $10 for bibimbop (that by which I judge all Korean) was a bit high, although it's the same price as at Dokeni. It's just $7.95 at Sushi Okdol on Myrtle. -
well, opening day issues aside - the food was slow coming out of the kitchen but the service was nice and ready to deal with that sort of issue - I'd say the place is pretty great.
obviously, it's not like going to 32nd street or flushing, but it's damn good. the appetizers were all very well done - we had jap chae, mandoo and pajun. my soondoobu was really yummy, though less soupy than normal.
the kimchee was great.
I will be eating there with relative frequency, I think. -
How was the pan chan (the little dishes they bring out that you don't actually order)?
-
Medusa wrote: How was the pan chan (the little dishes they bring out that you don't actually order)?
minimal - 3 dishes plus kimchi. there was a fishcake & shrimp one, some greenstuff with dried sardines and some mildly pickled radish shreds. good stuff. we ate TONS of it due to the wait and the staff was nice to keep filling up our dishes. -
Ugh Im so jealous!!! I really wanted to get there last night but we decided to head over there on Friday.
PS do they have forks there
