This is so sad

oh man! that's awful. so disturbing.
-
Yeah, that's horrible...
Any news of what type of breeding was going on? That one running around with the dart in it's ass had more than a little pit in it, but some of the others were unrecognizable... Hopefully ACC really will give them a chance, but I'm not too optimistic... -
Man, that is so disturbing. My fiance walks by that place every day...twice...and she says it always freaks her out.
-
I've walked by there plenty of times but never noticed, that's what's scary... how many other blocks have something like this going on?! I KNOW that more than a few people in my area breed dogs... I've seen too many bitches, with their teats flapping around, for my own comfort.
-
my understanding is that most of the dog breeding, especially these mixed breeds, are for dog fighting. wouldn't be surprised if the dogs were regularly kept hungry. blah.

Yeah, it's bad enough that some dogs are seen as little more than thug accessories, but fighting them is even more deplorable...
Side note - anybody else find it somewhat funny when they see a thug being pulled down the block by his dog? Every time I see it, I have this internal conversation -
"You see how s/he's pulling you down the block?"
"Yeah?"
"That means that s/he thinks you're her/his bitch. Have a nice day!" -
The front of the house looks pretty dirty (lots of garbage outside and in front of the door. I have seen a person come out of that house numerous times and take the train with me and he was an older gentleman who never looked or smelled dirty.
-
I passed by and I saw the police, the news truck and two dogs in carrying cases. I knew what was going on by the smell of the dogs, which was powerful. When one of them howled, I wasn't sure what sort of animal it was.
-
this is alwful
. i hope they catch these punks and have them fight each other and be inbreed and than shot or something. -
I passed yesterday and saw three police vehicles (truck-like...must have been animal control) and a few police cars.
I have heard dogs barking inside the house before. The front door is always packed with boxes, garbage or towels or clothes. Once I saw someone climbing through a broken window in the front door above the garbage. -

Welcome! :!: :!:

What block was this on?
Love that the Fox reporter said it was on Bergen "Avenue." -
Looks like Bergen between Vandy and Carlton.
-
I'm pretty sure it's 5XX Bergen St.
Mod note: Address edited at family's request -
This is my neighbor. I can assure you that any dog breeding going on there is purely by accident and not for sport or financial gain. Judging from his appearance, actions, and the fact that he lives in filth - and I mean filth - I imagine there is some sort of mental illness going on there.
He does climb in and out of a broken window... because all of the other "normal" access routes to home or street (for example, the door) are blocked with trash. He also can often be seen sleeping on the stairs or walkway in front of his home.
Word on the block is that he was sent to the hospital and has been absent for 10 days, which would account for the beaten appearance of the dogs, and the fact that they were ravenous enough to eat one of their own.
His closest neighbors have been dealing with the overall filth and noise that comes with having many dogs for years. Hopefully the intervention of so many city agencies will get him the help that he clearly needs. -
maybe listing the address isn't the kindest idea.
-
Oh man this is so sick and sad. I rode or walked by there every freaking day for almost 6 years and noticed nothing. On one hand you have Vivian from Housebroken on Vanderbilt walking, rescuing and taking care of neighborhood dogs, while one block away, you have this nightmare. Mental illness has to be the cause of this. So horrible. THis is similar to the apartment I almost moved into last summer, where there was the cat version living downstairs. I tried so hard to get the city involved, the woman there needed help desperately, but as long as SSI was paying her rent, nobody gave a shit. They finally did something there, and helped her, about 8 months later.
Poor animals. uh, this is so horrible I can barely think about it. -
so this isnt one of those things for dog breeding fighting things. sad indeed for the dogs and the mentally ill person
. -
I went by the house today and took some photos. It's worse than I could have imagined- but don't worry about this happening on your block. The neighbors have been complaining about the stench at this building for 15 years.

Doesn't look like there's enough air for a fire! Holy crap - stuff's literally to the ceiling! -
Raul where they still using the pick axes to get in there?
-

I didn't see pick axes, but I would believe anything. The neighbors had been complaining for years, but in the end, when they didn't see they owner for two weeks or so and the smell was particularly bad, some agency finally went in because they thought the owner might have died.
I should mention the guy with the bottle (see http://tinyurl.com/lbu49) promised he was not going to drink it- he did want it as a souvenir.
The owner is supposedly in the hospital with a heart condition. -
Mrs. C and I just went by and were watching for a while.
Some facts:
*There were pick axes
*They were loading their 3rd garbage truck with crap while we were there, and a 4th truck was parked on standby behind it
*They haven't even cleared the entrance yet, and the garbage is piled ceiling-high on every floor
*The stuff on the lower levels is essentially compost
*They removed 14 dogs the other night, including one dead one that the others were eating
*That shit is gross, yo! -
yikes. did it smell on the street?

A little bit. A lot after one of the Sanitation workers came over and dusted himself off next to the crowd that had congregated to watch what was going on. -
grody

I knew something was up there, I mean the folks who live right next door had certainly mentioned that his place was nasty, and I have eyes (and ears - what I thought was 8 dogs do a reasonable amount of barking), but I had no idea how deep (or high, literally) the problem went.
I guess I can stop wondering why we had a MAJOR mouse infestation this past winter. I wonder if this is the reason our backyard is a mosquito haven as well. I know flies dig trash - mosquitos too? -
Oh, I see. I was walking home (helmetless; crazy, I know) and saw the news trucks. I asked the Fox guy what happened, and he waved his hand and said "Nothing". At first I thought he was just annoyed at having been bothered, but know I realize that it was disgust in his voice and he couldn't bear talking about it.
Then again, it was Fox News, so he probably didn't know what had happened. Other than the evil doing residents were democrats. -
