Underhill Ave Playground Progress

yea, no - I've been waiting forever for this "construction" to be done and over. It would be really nice if it were...
-
I was going to ask the same question... and I've seen no action

Addendum: the palimpsest out front now says 'Winter 2006'. I'm guessing the next thing they'll be getting around to renovating there is the '6'. -
does anyone know who we can contact about getting any information on the park's progress or at least complain how slow it is
-
Kate Suisman and Tish James, though I think they are aware of the situation. Couldn't hurt to ping them and find out about the promised progress......

THis was on PHParents a few months ago (early May was the post). Maybe you can contact them and see what is up. It's ridiculous how long this has been going on. I'd love to see some pressure put on them to hurry it up!
Thank you for your email message regarding Underhill Playground in Brooklyn.
Our design for this project required revision to accommodate the rapid growth of the existing trees. As a result, a stop work order was issued and a redesign was developed earlier this spring. This redesign has now been approved, and the contractor is in the process of acquiring the new material needed and will continue work later this month. This new design will preserve the existing trees while providing new playground and a more attractive landscape.
We appreciate your interest in Parks. If you have any further questions or concerns, please call David Martin, our Brooklyn Team Leader for Capital Projects, at (718) 760-6642. -
Thankyou for the information, I will call Mr. David and I know Tish personally. My parents and a few neighbors broke the ground to that park we cut the ribbon and drank apple cider. It's a shame there was no information to the community and such a slow progress on opening it back up.

Thanks howdareu - can you maybe suggest they keep a sign up informing us of the stage of progress and when we can anticipate it being done.
PS - do you have any pictures from the original groundbreaking. That would be so interesting to see. -
This report is a week late, but I walked by on primary day and saw a woman parked across from the park in a Park's Dept. vehicle and approached her to ask about what we can expect in terms of a timeline.
She confirmed the story about the trees (plan #1 involved removing all the existing trees and planting new ones then they decided to keep trees and had to design plan #2). So now the plan is done and this worker said that it should be done by December 2006.
She said there will be sprinklers (yay!) and that the plan looks very nice. -
I actaully saw about 4 guys working there a few days ago.
-
Call Tish James and tell her that Bruce Ratner plans to build a 20-story condo on the site of the playground - she'll be there in 15 minutes with a whip and bullhorn, screeching at the workers to hurry up and finish.
-
Anybody see the progress on the playground? It's actually coming together. Looks like most of the concrete work is done and they've leveled out more than half of the space
-
Looks like they poured asphalt yesterday. Might actually be finished soon.
-
they were out there working today in the balmy 19 degree weather!
i think it's going to turn out to be a really nice park. -
every time i pass b y seems to look the same untouched :P.

Not yet -- these shots were through the fence. -
I just called the team leader, David Martin, who says it should be done by the end of April or beginning of May. When I told him it appears to be just about finished already, he said there is "seasonal" work that isn't quite done -- planting and painting, which requires consistently warm weather. Well this week the temps will be near 70. Hope we finally see people working there -- consistently. This has been very frustrating for me and my children!

please ignore my last post

Please ignore the above! Long story, but I spoke to Letitia James on the phone and I misunderstood part of her earlier email.
I wrote to the mods to delete the post since I don't want there to be any misunderstanding.
thanks. and look forward to this finally opening!
