Finally below freezing last night. Hopefully it's the end of them for now.

so much blood on my walls.

:x They're BAAAAA-AAAAACK! We'll, at least one was back. After leaping out of bed about 4 times between 3 and 4:30am with that unbearable buzz in my ear, I finally caught the mother-f**ker. I used Rumsfeld's waterboarding tactics to try and get him to spill the beans on where him and his comrades have their four-seasons safe haven, and from where they are ploting their attacks. He wouldn't cooperate, so I terminated him. I don't think killing one mosquito creates more mosquitos, does it?
Stay vigilent, y'all. -

I squished one that was the size of a small terrier. Messy! Then I realised it actually was a terrier. -
I just found this thread but I've been suffering for months. The solution for me and my boyfriend was to close all the windows a month ago, and not open them except for stretches of a few minutes. The fact that I haven't had another bite since then finally convinced me that they had somehow been getting through the window screens. We also thought they were coming in from our A/C units, but I think the open windows were more the factor for us.
My routine before bedtime was to spray an old sheet all over with Off! (I called it my Deet Sheet), then I would spray my entire pillowcase, then carefully put Deet on my forehead, nose and cheeks, and then I would cover myself up to my neck with the sheet. Sometimes I would lift the sheet around my head to cover my ears to protect them from mosquitoes getting too near and buzzing. It sort of worked, but I would still wake up occassionally because my hand would drift out from behind my sheet and they would bite my thumb. For some reason they love my thumb. -
i know i'm late to the party, but count me in as a longtime mosquito sufferer. had a few more bites about 2 weeks ago. i pleaded with my cat to kill the little bastards, but more often than not she decided napping was more important. most of my friends live in manhattan or further west in brooklyn and they thought i was crazy, so i'm just glad to finally have some validation.

shouldn't some guy be selling mosquito nets on the street by now?
-
hehe too cold for folks to be out in the streets selling questionable goods

The first bite of the summer. I never even saw the bastard coming.
ooooohh soooooo itchy..... -
oh those bastards are back
. they should invent something to kill them all!!! i don't think anyone would be sad to see them go extinct. -
Yeah, I got bitten twice last night, but it was in Manhattan. It never seems really bad to me until they get into my apartment. I'm sure that will happen soon enough.

I don't know if they work, but I just saw these mentioned in a magazine article:
www.dontbugmepatch.com
I'm very intrigued. -
Don’t Bug Me! Patch is a revolutionary new product in insect protection! This transdermal, all natural patch is applied directly to your skin, releasing Vitamin B1 into the bloodstream and repelling biting insects.
Sweet! I need some B vitamins!
Can you buy this stuff around here? -
I have no idea. I'm probably going to order some soon, though, because my husband and I are both considered USDA Prime in the mosquito world. Will report back.
-
Does anyone have any suggestions for ridding them from back yards? Anyone used the outdoor foggers (nasty chemicals everywhere, and how long do they last?) or the Co2 machines (pricey)? Any other ideas?
-
Beware of bananas. Apparently if you eat a banana, they can "smell" it in your blood and go after ya. Could be just an urban myth.

My son and I are the same way - and I take a spray bottle fill half with water the other half with Avon Skin So Soft Bath Oil. I have tried every single bug repellent and that is the only one that works. -
Time to get the mosquito thread going again!
They're back...crafty little buggers.
I am going to resort to a bug bomb/fogger...anyone had any luck with these? Do I need to clear all my clothes out of the room? -

For mosquitos? I've only used them for roaches. I'm not sure if you need to leave your closet and dresser drawers open for mosquitos, but I doubt they'd hide in those places (unlike roaches). If they're closed, you shouldn't have to remove all the clothes from them. If you're bombing the kitchen, make sure your plates, glasses, utensils, etc are sealed away or in a different room.

do you have standing water in your bedroom? if not, it's unlikely that mosquitos are really living in there, and your time might be better spent making sure your screens are intact. (if you do have standing water, maybe whyfi will help you out with drainage....)

I think they are coming in through the air conditioner, is the only thing I can figure, as everything else is sealed tight, and we have no standing water. (Unless they would be attracted to the water in our indoor plants?)

anyone know where to buy a mosquito net in the city?!

Subject: Finally able to sleep
After getting mosquito bites on mosquito bites, I bought a fan and so far have slept quite peacefully.Try it and you will be amazed. -
Subject: in need of sleep
Has anyone found the past few nights unbearable? I'm riddled with bites - literally dozes on my hands, arms, feet and legs. I'm desperate for ideas on how to get rid of them or ways to protect my flesh. We've sealed our windows the best we can (we have an AC in the bedroom). I just don't understand how they've gotten into our apartment en masse - or why I'm the target of their affections rather than my husband. And to top it off, our baby just started sleeping through the night -- so its been six months without a good night's rest. If the beasts would only let me be... Urgh. -
i'm all bit up!

Would spraying DEET on your window screens help?
Anyone know? -
Its about an year this was posted, and the menace of mosquitoes actually drove me to have a look online if the other users have any idea to get a complete eradication of them. But now after seeing the discussion here its clear to me the problem is global and till the time mankind would exist the mosquitoes would thrive too. There is no way we can escape from them. Lets say some people are making a fortune out of the mosquitoes by making the repellents or other such products and we are left to suffer as usual.

Ahhh, an evil blood sucker caught me while I was asleep. I woke up to 4+ bites. They're all swollen and itchy!
Howdy, Stranger!
