where does downtown Brooklyn fit?
So, I just moved to Brooklyn and I'm loving it! However, I noticed that none of the forums include "downtown Brooklyn" as their area of coverage (e.g., areas including Brooklyn Bridge Blvd., Cadman Plaza, etc.). Is that because people are snobbish about that area, or just an oversight? Should I keep an eye on the BoCoCa forum or on the Brooklyn Heights one?

Most BH residents don't cross the Brooklyn Bridge Blvd. I only cross to get some variety in my pizza slice choices and there are a few decent ones. Saying that, the Fulton Mall is filled with crappy dollar like stores, cell phone providers, franchised restaurants, cheap & fugly clothing stores and that includes the Brooklyn Macy's.
During the working days, Monday - Friday until 5:00PM it is busy, after that it is a dead zone. The area should pick up with all the new residential constructions going on. In fact, this is the area I want to move into the most out of all other neighborhoods in Brooklyn. I'd stay in BH but I can't afford a brownstone and most condos are those fugly cheap designs with 7 & 8 footish ceilings. My rental in a brownstone will have to do for now. -

Ah, which is exactly where I live! So, technically, BB Blvd is part of Brooklyn Heights? -
Most people think of Court Street as the boundary for Brooklyn Heights. Past that is downtown Brooklyn and other adjacent nabes such as DUMBO.

I will be moving to Downtown Brooklyn in 6-8 mos. when my apartment is ready. Im moving into the BELLTellofts in the old phone company building. There is soon to be a huge residential population in this area. They have rezoned schemmerhorn and livingston for residential. The next 3 yrs should be interesting. I don't think the current Fulton Mall will survive the change. At least I'm banking on it. What i mean by that is I hope for more diversity in the stores and restaurant options The area is well served with trains and loaded with beautiful old buildings. Check the nyc.gov sight for more info. Here is the link. http://home2.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/dwnbklyn2/dwnbklynintro1.shtml

I'm looking to move to Downtown Brooklyn from Brooklyn Heights. I like the diversity there; the diversity in people, color, and building height. The BELLTelloft's website dosen't list the prices and neither does the dedicated blog to the building. Is there a website that lists the floorplan and price?

Nevermind, I found it on Prudential Douglas website.

What do you think Downtown is missing that will really draw new business to the area?

Living in the Midwest like I now do, I hadn't heard that historic Gage & Tollner had been closed down. With that tragedy, Downtown Brooklyn lost much of its character.
Years ago my brother and I made a bet about a boxing match. He thought he knew his stuff but I came out the winner in that deal. Because of that he had to shell out over $ 100 for a dinner at G + T. This was in 1980 when the sum of $ 100 was quite a lot.
Here's a photo (for the sensitive among you, I recommend that you turn away):
Ugh! That's painful!!! -
Yeah, the BellTel. Right next door to one of downtown Brooklyn's culinary masterpieces. A White Castle!

Subject: Grocery Store in Downtown Brooklyn
Digging up an old thread but what are the plans for a grocery here?
The Atlantic/Clinton street grocery store, Garden of Eden on Montague and future Trader Joe's on Atlantic/Court Street is a little too far away to be considered downtown Brooklyn convenient. -
i think downtown brooklyn is the best place to live in NY!!!
after living all over NY i decided this is the best
only i wish it was cleaner....

This kind of elitist attitude is the problem. This kind of thinking - that there is something wrong with non-yuppy businesses - has brought Atlantic Yards there. People who work in DT Brooklyn need 99 cent stores and places to get lunch and pay their cell phone bills. They do not need Tiffany's and Hermes and other "upscale" places. People working at the courthouses need a reasonably priced lunch, not $200 silk scarves or $1500 handbags. -
You said it Muggle!
I am totally one for cleaning up and making a neighborhood better, I even enjoy the diverse origins of new hipster, yuppie types, BUT PLEASE TAKE IT FROM A REAL BROOKLYN GIRL... YOU FOLKS DON'T KNOW SHOT ABOUT BROOKLYN!!!! lol
Rest assured Yuppsters CHANEL and Gucci will be arriving on Fulton street within a few years. Working with a non for profit, we have been given access to the 5 year plan of downtown Brooklyn. Yes, there will be major change, but the funniest things to watch are the marriage between Ft. Green Project and Red hook Project residence and the "locals" that are just off the May Flower from places like Iowa, and Fresno.
Howdy, Stranger!
