The Smoke Joint - BBQ in LaFu Opens this Friday! — Brooklynian

The Smoke Joint - BBQ in LaFu Opens this Friday!

In case you missed it this was in the NY Times:

THE SMOKE JOINT This friendly cafeteria-style place in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, is owned by Craig Samuel, above left, and Ben Grossman, above right, who bring pedigree to pulled pork, hacked chicken, ribs and other smoky pit barbecue staples. Mr. Samuel is executive chef at City Hall and Mr. Grossman has worked at Picholine and La Grenouille. Seating is at bare wood tables inside and on a glass-enclosed porch. It opened briefly last weekend and will reopen to the public on Friday: 87 South Elliott Place (Lafayette Avenue), (718) 797-1011.

  • Yeah, I saw it was open on Sunday night and tried to go this past Tuesday - no go! Okay - I will be in line on Friday!

Also - I'm bringing a printout of what their website looks like to me - only seems to render the image on the PC running IE. All others get random noise.
  • Tried it a few weeks ago.. the ribs were REALLY fatty.. bleh. The baked beans were good though...

    Anyone else tried it?
  • Havent had a bad meal there yet, and I love fatty ribs, so their style fits my preferences perfectly. I actually have been enjoying their short racks these last few weeks., and being that I am a major carnivore, this place and their food is right up my alley. (disclaimer, I am not a 'foodie', so I don't look for the negatives on every single aspect of the restuarant experience, nor do I swoon like a school kid about the positives, jsut a fat guy who likes well-done bbq)
  • They're opening their corner cafe this weekend... it's going to have baked goods and other treats. I'm very interested to see what it's like.
  • I won't be in line for this place.
Food wasn't that great...plus all that pulled pork ain't good fer yer.
  • "...just a fat guy who loves well-done BBQ."

    Love it! AWESOME!
  • Smoke Joint is excellent. They have several different choices of meats cooked in different ways. If you didn't enjoy the type of ribs you had, tell them what you'd prefer - i.e. something less fatty - and they'll recommend something.
  • I enjoyed the ambience here, but found the food a little meh. The mac and cheese had processed cheese. And the pulled pork had a nice texture, but was kinda bland.
  • We had dinner there last night. It's better than most BBQ places I've been to NYC . . . good enough that I wanted to try more of what they dishing out.
The Fred Flinstonesque beef ribs are especially well cooked - super tender - and I liked their greens. (Alafarinadia, channel your Texan over there)
But I'm a Carolina pig loyalist so . . . we'll see. In NY, I prefer Chinese pork ribs!

The beer selection is right on for the joint.
