Crain's Poll: 60% of Brooklyn Supports Atlantic Yards

According to a new independent poll released on Monday by Crain’s, 60% of Brooklynites support Atlantic Yards. Those polled cited the need for new affordable housing and good jobs as important parts of Atlantic Yards with 92% of supporters citing the affordable housing component of Atlantic Yards as an important benefit and 86% saying that the Community Benefits Agreement is a vital part of the project.

Specifically, the poll found:

Support for Atlantic Yards is equally strong in Brooklyn as it is city-wide, with 60% of Brooklynites and 60% all New Yorkers supporting the project
71% of New Yorkers have a favorable impression of Atlantic Yards
83% of New Yorkers agreed that Atlantic Yards’ commitment to affordable and middle-income housing is an important benefit
86% of those polled said the legally binding community benefits agreement guaranteeing housing, jobs and other benefits is a vital part of the project
58% polled expressed excitement about welcoming the Nets to Brooklyn

Anyone who wishes to voice their opinion about the Atlantic Yards project is encouraged come out and speak at one of the upcoming Community Forums held by the Empire State Development Corporation on September 12th and 18th. Both forums will be held at the New York City Technical College, 285 Jay Street, Brooklyn, New York beginning at 4:30PM.
