Thanks. Me too. And boy he would have some stories to tell! He got into so much trouble. Miss you Mooks.
  • Here's how I got Mookie: I was walking to a friends apartment in Washington Heights and I passed some guys who were playing football. When I got closer I saw that they were actually playing football with what appeared to be a 3 or 4 month old kitten. Back and forth. I screamed for them to stop. One guy said, oh you want it? Here, catch. And threw him at me. Hard. I caught him. And turned around and brought him back to Brooklyn. This was years ago.
  • Don't be sad Voodoo, we've all had pets pass away and felt that pain of loss.
Here's the bum that found his way into my apartment and has yet to pay a single heating bill!!

    Yeah Baby, Meeeow

And no pic of him is complete without the money shot!

There was no question as to getting him out of there and fast! It was pretty horrific. Buddy was dropped off at Petco with 7 brothers and sisters by a crazy man who dumped a box with all of them just inside the front door. I was in buying cat food and saw him and couldn't resist. He was so sick I wasn't sure if he would be alive when I got home from work for the first week I had him. Three of his brothers and sisters did die. Took him to the vet four times that week and finally forced him to start eating. Once he started eating he never looked back! :D

    You rock, VNYC.

Aw, thanks Laura, but I only did what I hope would be a normal gut reaction by any human being to help an animal in distress. It constantly amazes me that some people can be so thoughtless and cruel to animals.
  • Those long-legged kitties would probably love to get their paws on my little Stanley-Bob! (he's country which requires a hyphenated name)

  • People who are cruel to animals, are probably cruel to humans and any other living species for that matter. Those kinds of people don't deserve to walk the earth. Period.
  • OpossumQueen wrote: Those long-legged kitties would probably love to get their paws on my little Stanley-Bob! (he's country which requires a hyphenated name)
Oh yes. Please send little Stanley-Bob over right away. Ollie and Buddy won't eat him, but would love to bat him around, hide behind the sofa and stare at him and possibly drop him in the toilet to see if he floats.

(Cute, by the way - exactly what reptile is that?)
  • It's a leopard gecko with a mutant tail (and something wrong making one of his eyes little pitiful--vet trip today). They usually have a long, plump lizardy tail. He also doesn't have nails like other leopard geckos. The tail and toe issues are from poor care before I got him...that tail is so soft and squishy!

He is so harmless it cracks me up when visitors are terrified of him.
  • Beautiful markings. And such fragile looking toes!
  • He's about to shed so he looks ashy, but after a fresh shed he has a nice yellow and pale green hue.

And he's ferocious! I just took him to Pet Haven as that lump under one eye is brand new. My sweet little S-B who is maybe 5 or 6 inches long and so smooshy, opened that toothless little mouth and chomped on the vet's finger. Luckily he's tiny and his jaws are meant for crushing worms and crickets, not bones.

I can't remember her name right now, but the vet and tech and receptionist at Pet Haven were are really friendly and the vet and tech were great with my little guy. Seems like an infection so we get to put drops in his eyes twice a day for a week.
  • Awww poor little lizzy. I used to work at a pet store when I was a youngin' and I also took care of the snakes and lizzards. I actually have horrible memories of that place. They treated their pets like trash, so many poor sick animals. You don't even want to know the horrors I saw there. I was too young to know that what they were doing was illegal and that I could report them.
  • Come on! That's just too much cuteness. I want to curl up around her and take a nap!
  • is that a sleeping position or a hiding from the camera move? Adorable either way.
  • oh, that's how I feel right now about the whole world...although a lot less adorable than she is
  • Here's a little less cuteness and a little more drool (click for larger) -
