Stuyvesant Heights?
I was recently told that Stuyvesant Heights makes East New York and Brownville look high-end. Apparently cab drivers won't go there and dead bodies are everywhere. THat's gotta be BS, but can anyone tell me where Stuyvesant Heights is and what it is like?

Stuyvesant Heights is the historic district near the Utica Avenue Stop on the A train. It is part of Bedford-Stuyvesant. It is nothing like Brownsville or East New York. I live there and do not have trouble getting cabs to take me there.

Interesting. The exact location I went to was Malcolm X and Fulton Street. The cab driver was nearly peeing his pants he was so scared of that neighborhood. You've really never had trouble getting a cab to take you there? -

I asked another cabbie about that neighborhood again yesterday. He described it as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city. There's no smoke without fire.... -

Next time, ask your driver where does he/she live? Chances are, on their meager salaries, they most likely cannot afford to purchase the average home in Stuyvesant Heights. How ironic!

I did ask the first cabbie where he lived and he lived in Boerum Hill -

I know next to nothing about your neighborhood, hence my question (which you were too defensive to answer) -

on the really off chance that you're actually genuine..why don't you check the crime stats for the precint

I didn't see a precinct listing for Stuyvesant Heights. Maybe it is included in Bed Stuy, where crime stats are surely high?

Aw, I'm bummed out that he's a troll. I thought it had the makings of a good discussion. What does anyone get out of convincing people that their neighborhood isn't great, anyway?...unless, of course, they're partial to another neighborhood. One near St. Johns & 5th Avenue, perhaps. Hey, maybe your neighborhood can pick a color, Bedford-Stuyvesant can pick another color, and we can rumble?

If you go to Stuyvesant Heights so often you should know that it isn't the war zone you make it out to be. I am not trying to pump up my own neighborhood either because I live in Fort Greene, not Bed-Stuy.
I have been spending a lot of time in Bed-Stuy trying to figure out where the good parts are and where to avoid as I'm thinking of moving there because it is a lot cheaper to buy there then in Fort Greene / Clinton Hill.
Sure, there's still higher crime and it's less safe than Boerum hill. Nobody will argue that. However, it is NOT like Brownsville. It is a much nicer neighborhood all around and has come a long way in the past 5 - 10 years. -
this thread is pretty lame and i hesitated before replying...but here goes. to the last poster-the general rule i go by is that the area next to clinton hill-western bed stuy, is good. the whole bedford/nostrand area is changing quickly-williamsburg spillover hipsters/pratt students/families/young professionals buying thier first homes. the middle area still has a ways to go because it's so underserved by the subways, etc. lastly, there's stuy heights, also a very good area to consider. i live in western bed stuy, near bedford ave (westbed as some are calling it) and love it.

Stuyvesant Heights like Bedford Stuyvesant is much safer than the World Trade Center and I have yet to be targeted by a 747.

If you have 1.2million I know of houses in Stuyvesant Heights you should consider before Atlantic Yards is finished. I have yet to see a body and very few cabbies could afford my rents.

Bed-Stuy has it's ups and downs. What would one expect when we live in a densely populated city w/ so many different diverse cultures. If a cabbie has a problem going to stuyvesant heights, then tell him to move on and flag another cabbie. And yes this neighborhood does have drug dealing going on, but so does every other brooklyn neighborhood. They're more high end. If you don't believe me look at the history of drug trafficing and who really run the show. Not any one in Bed-Stuy, because the king pens live in the "nice" neighborhoods and are people you really don't suspect.
