New Cheesesteak place on Flatbush

I don't know, but seeing how its a block away from me, it feels win-win. I am hoping and praying that they make dynamite cheesesteaks at a good price, home made fries, signature condiments...let it be so.
-
So is it gonna be that kinda place? Fresh cut fries? Real beef, thinly sliced and not a greasy Steakummm? I used to live in Philly and miss those damn things so much! In fact, they are the only things I miss from Philadelphia. *Stomach is mad growling, mouth is salivating. A good cheesesteak is like stomach porn*

I think it might be owned by the Silver Spoon people. I remember them posting a sign outside saying they were closing for renovations, not going out of business or going through change of ownership. Can anybody verify?

I don't think it is the Silver Spoon brothers. They are my landlords, and I believe they indicated to me that they're only going to be landlords from now on. -
It is definitely in the old Silver Spoon space. I saw the bright sign this morning as I was crossing Flatbush. Not that cheese steaks aren't a great addition, but Silver Spoon was the only diner near our apt. Not that it was all that great but it was dependable and I'm not at all a fan of the diner near Wing Wagon.
I hope they make good cheese steaks! I'm curious if the owners are from Philly!?! -

I remember that too, though not sure that it means anything. Mostly I'm just happy its something I can get into. On that side of flatbush there is so much turnover, and every time something new comes in I'm excited to see what its going to be, then it ends up being a spa, boutique or nail salon, all completely useless to me. But cheesesteaks? That I can use. -

KW have you ever tried the Usual. Its a really nice diner on Vanderbilt -
Ditto on The Usual.

Thanks Stacey! I have been to the Usual (not lately) but SS was practically across the street. For a lazy morning it was great. I guess I need to be a bit less dramatic in saying it was the only diner nearby but rather it was the only diner within a 2 minute walk! Every week after picking up my CSA share I would pass the Usual and think that I need to go back. I guess now is the time!!! -
I wish you could still get the regular diner menu for dinner at the Usual in addition to the new fancier stuff.

If this place is any good, my life is about to be cut by 10 years.
But growing up with cheese steaks and then trying to find good ones here (and trying to explain why this is such a big deal to others) I've realized a large part of it comes down to the bread. Unless they're baking bread with crummy Philly tap water then it just won't be as good.
Tony Luke's midtown shop does a good job at that but they can be hit or miss with everything else. -
Anyone have any idea when this place will open?
-
Their awning states that breakfast will be served too. Diner and cheese steaks? They also have a sign above the awning that says "Shoot Hoops not Guns". A great message, but it seems a bit out of place... but for a new restaurant a block from the proposed Nets arena, maybe not.
-
Not sure about when it opens, but god that awning is awful.

Not soon enough!
-
So let me get this straight. The sign does NOT read as "High
Cheese Stakes Steaks". -
Yarn, that's exactly what I thought the first couple of times I saw it. Perhaps they couldn't decide on a name and decided to go ambiguous?

Maybe they should leave it open to haiku interpretation. Very artsy. I wrote three of them. I shoud get back to work.
How sad Silver Spoon.
High cheese stakes it's future steak.
Cheese steaks. High cheese stakes.
"High cheese stakes steaks", no?
Will there be cheese steaks to go?
Where went Silver Spoon?
Hello to Cheese Steak.
Goodbye old friend, Silver Spoon.
Will you serve breakfast? -
i walked by and peeked in the window on saturday.
looks like it could be tasty. the logo is horrible and the orange and silver motif hurt my eyes. -
They are opening next week.

I know what you mean. That's an odd way to ligature a title. But I offer this olive branch: a cheese steak mascot named Philly. Put Philly between "High Cheese" and "Stakes Steak", he'll smooth everything over. (He's doing the mummer dance). -
Are you sure that's a cheese steak??
-
That looks like the taco that craps ice cream from South Park!
-

Philly the cheese steak and Mr. Hankey, seperated at birth? -
I still think it looks more like the taco that craps ice cream! Except the opposite enantiomer. The cheese steak is the D form and the taco that craps ice cream is the L form.
-
I say a poll is order.
-
I can only describe the resemblance as "Haunting", like a Yoko Ono ballad.
-
They all have Yoko's angst.
-
Yeuch. Someone described in detail what a Philly cheesesteak is to me once. I almost retched.

I once got the worst gastrointestinal distress ever from eating at Carl's Steaks on 3rd ave in Manhattan. My friends and I started called it "Hot Carl's".
