I feel funny answering that, with all that Todd Rundgren on your pod...

pata pata rocks. great stuff. still makes me smile, even though i heard it for the first time in the 70s. don't know why that would make you feel funny.

as for the todd, well, yes... i have everything he ever did on the ipod, so i'd say that the gigs devoted to him, solely, are larger than to other people. but, as you know, shuffle is hardly random. on neither itunes or ipod. there are some songs you never, ever hear. and some that come by all the time. 15 gigs of songs and i'm rarely surprised by what pops up next. (i think wired mag had an article about this.). hence, playlists.

and yes, sometimes the playlist is all rundgren all the time. but we've a curious mix here in these posts, n'est pas?

i recognize about 10% of the artists people have posted, which is making me feel very, very old
  • Ok, I have to try this again. The last one was LAME.

    How am I feeling today?
The Beatles- "I Call Your Name" (mono)

Will I get far in life?
Duran Duran- "A View To A Kill"

What should I do with my life?
    Athlete- "Out Of Nowhere"

    Who will you marry?

    How will you die?
    Moradi*Aliakbar+Hadadi- "Avazi"

    Rebirth?
    Snow Patrol- "Gleaming Auction"

I don't like this frame as much as the first one. The questions are too specific, which makes most of them harder to fit. The soundtrack theme is more vague, which makes it work better.

what do you DO when you listen to this pod?
btw, you have the first list where I recognize less than 50% of the artists...
    :D

hahaha. I go to work ... come home from work. it's mostly a morning iPod, so most of the music is angry, loud, or moody.
and I wouldn't worry about the less than 50% thing - since I really only have like 100 songs on the iPod (but about 6 tracks are hour+ long techno sets), the same artists are repeated incessantly.

The Faint, MSI and Trans Am I'd think would be most recognizable, aside from Madonna. and the mashup is MIA's Bucky Done Gone with Little Computer People, which were both hip indie things in the last few years. and Freeform Five I got from Candicssima, which means I only ever hear that song in Bushwick.

Deftones are pretty well known, though, no? they're on every sci-fi, Matrix soundtrack ever. The Resistors are totally unknown, I'd guess - they were on this really awful (including that track) Electro Bands do Metallica album. it's hilarious to listen to but pretty f'in painful.

    Surgeon and Autechre = techno.

    Coil = favorite band ever.

Seabound and Rammstein - really awful shite. But I love that you smell so good song.

Death Scene: Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
Funeral Song: She Floated Away - Husker Du

Some pretty good tunes on there, but as far as fitting the theme it kinda failed. Fun, though.

  • OK, may I first state that my wife and I are music junkies, worked "in the biz" and have A TON OF MUSIC, not all of it burned yet, but this selection is from well-over 200GB's worth...13,423 songs, 32.8 days of music...and still burning. And I don't even have any classical, new classical or jazz in yet

    Breaking Up:
    Butthole Surfers-Revolution part.1
    (interesting...)

    And that's it.

EDIT: I did it again because I didn't think the previous one took - I was getting an error message and I was like "Screw it, I'll do it when I get home." Which I did. Then I scroll up and the original is there. Ah well, I don't know if these two lists say more about my musical tastes or my MP3 player's. I think 15 of maybe 5,000 songs are Saw Doctors tunes and it grabbed one each time. I have a lot of Fugazi on there, but it almost always takes a song from 13 Songs as the first pick when I random it, so that's weird, but I'm used to it. I was hoping Where Eagles Dare (Misfits) would come up as my fight song/final battles song, but no such luck. It also loves Enema of the State. Heh, it's kinda weird now that I compare the lists.

ok. I LOVE 13 Songs. damn. it's a fuckin' fantastic album. and Where Eagles Dare by the Misfits is one of my fave songs ever. I have a "punk" mix that I dump on my IPOD a lot that has a lot of Misfits, Ramones, Black Flag, Fugazi, DRI etc on it. rox

(my favorite ramones song, that I don't have on itunes, is the ramones "go lil camero go" with debbie harry singing backup. i had that on vinyl for years and now no longer own it. I kinda long for debbie harry's "oooohoooh oh")
  • I fuckin' lov "Where Eagles Dare."
  • okay, i'll try this one, but it is more complicated, huh? this time it seems the Gipsy Kings got a featured role... 3 songs, c'mon!

    How am I feeling today?
    Sia: "Sunday"
(this is funny. wasn't feeling great today so took the day off from work: "Yeah, it will be ok; Do nothing today; Give yourself a break; Let your imagination run away")

Will I get far in life?
Psychedelic Furs: "All that Money Wants"
    (sez it all)

How do my friends see me?
    Ray Charles: "It's Alright"
    (yes!)

    Where will I get married?
    Foo Fighters: "Dear Lover"
(well, it's a love song, but it ain't got nuthin' to do with locale)

What is my best friend's theme?
    Elvis Costello: "Watching the Detectives"
    (yeah. it fits. danger girl)

What is the story of my life?
    Tito & Tarantula: "Mexican Sky"
    (huh?)

    What was high school like?
David Bowie: "Something in the Air" (live at the KitKat Klub)
(listening to live Bowie does remind me a lot of high school and all the shows i saw during that time, so i guess it works)

How can I get ahead in life?
Lunatic Calm: "Leave You Far Behind"
    (title says it all)

What is the best thing about me?
    Gipsy Kings: "Igual Se Entonces"
(not a clue. it's a silly love song)

    What was today like?
    Del Amitri: "Tell Her This"
    (nope. nuthin' even close)

What is in store for this weekend?
    David Bowie: "Quicksand"
    (no freakin' idea!)

    What song describes my parents?
    Gipsy Kings: "A Tu Vera"
(not even close. they hate each other HA!))

    How is my life going?
    Massive Attack: "Unfinished Sympathy"
("Like a soul without a mind; In a body without a heart; I'm missing every part" actually my life is pretty good, so this is too sad)

What song will they play at my funeral?
    Gipsy Kings: "Estrellas"
(i guess they plan on a little flamenco as they walk the coffin down the aisle - dancing on my grave, perhaps?!?!)

How does the world see me?
    Snow Patrol: "Spitting Games"
(this one didn't really work, unless it's: "It's not as if I need the extra weight; Confused enough by life so thanks a lot")

Will I have a happy life?
    Tom McRae: "Human Remains"
(not if i listen to this song often!)

What do my friends really think of me?
Robert Plant: "Shine it All Around"(um.. okay, this is stretching: "This is the way that I choose when the deal goes down; This is the world that I love; Painted all over troubled; Take a little sunshine, shine it all around)

How can I make myself happy?
Bob Bellamy: "The Rights of Man"
(no one will recognize this song. it's hammered dulcimer music. very bouncy, definitely makes me happy)

What should I do with my life?
    Depeche Mode: "Behind the Wheel"
(drive anywhere, baby, cuz i'm in the hands of fate)

    Who will you marry?
    Tom Jones: "What's New, Pussycat?"
(dunno who it's gonna be, but it's gonna be one cheesy wedding! unless it means i'm marrying Tom Jones, who i used to love to watch on telly when i was three years old!))

    How will you die?
Eels: "Your Lucky Day in Hell"
(WTF? taking the title lterally, i'm scared!)

    Rebirth?
David Holmes: "Yen on a Carousel"
(from Ocean's Twelve soundtrack. yearning on a merry-go-round? yeah, i'd say that was apropos to the cycle of rebirth)

  • I just came across this thread , and it looks fun.

I know it's kinda old , but I hadn't discovered Brooklynian at that time , so I should be able to dig up whatever I want. :)

I opened up musicmatch and let the Auto DJ pick out the songs from my whole music library , which is alooooooot , so this should be interesting.

Don't make fun of my songs - or else!

    *************************************************
    Opening Credits: Michelle Branch - " Everywhere " ** I don't know , when I close my eyes I see darkness, so yeah she's a wacko.**

Waking Up: N'Sync - " If I'm not the one" ** Then move on bee-otch!**

First Day at School: Rihanna - " Pon De Replay" ** Party in school? No , it's when you skip school to go to the party.**

Falling In Love: N'Sync - "Bye Bye Bye" ** Oh , well. Next! **

Fight Song: Avant - " Seperated" **Seems a better fit as the breakup song , but it's okay here too.**

Driving: Nelly - " Boy" ** First time hearing this too.**

Final Battle: J-Kwon - "You and me" ** True dat.**

Death Scene: Aaliyah - " One in a million" **Yes , yes it is...but doesn't fit a death scene though....what I'm gonna do with a dead body?**

Funeral Song: Cassie - " You and me" ** Not at a funeral , c'mon! This girl knows too much about what guys like , and all the guys talkin' about how she do what she do.She got too much experience. Doesn't fit me at all.

End Credits: Monica - " The first night" ** Okay , it fits , I'm not one to make the first move either , the whole shy thing is to blame.

    Thats all.

This was fun! Some of the songs fit , some I don't even know why they are in my library.
  • For some reason, the answer to every single one of these questions for me is the BBC world service news theme.
