Spumoni Gardens has unfortunately gone seriously downhill the last few years. The sauce is just horrible now. I know for a fact they now use bulk sauce in a can. I'm not sure if they once made it themselves but thats definately the main factor to their "downhilliness". (is that a word?)

I know it's in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill but hell, you guys are talking about taking trains to Midwood! They have the great thin crust, no soupy sauce and excellent toppings of a Grimaldi's plus in the summer they have a roof garden.
I really like the family vibe too. SUnday nights are packed and they have a terrific fennel salad that is practically a meal.
Its on VANDERBILT between Dekalb and Myrtle.
Franny's is way too expensive and Amorina's hasn't hit it either. DiFara's rocks of course but a bike ride down Vandy is often a preferable trip to me.... -

i was surprised to find Cherry Tree on 5th ave. now has a brick oven.
and some pretty good pizzas come out of it
add a couple of pints of Weiss beer
and a $5 game of elk shooting

Went to Grimaldi's tonight... mmmm... we had an out of town guest with us, so we had more toppings than I usually like, and the pizza suffered a bit because of it, but still damn good. One nit - coulda used a little more basil. Dough/crust was great, though. I'll have to get over to DiFara's while Grimaldi's is still fresh in my mind.
Now that I think about it, I had a great eating day, today - had an even better than usual Cuban and rice & beans from Gran Castillo for lunch. -
Second Graziella's as hands down best in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill.

Anyway the best slice of pizza I had was the grandma slice at lenny's.
When after eating a excellent tasting slice of pizza you think to yourself.
1. This is a good slice of pizza, but im full no more for me
2. This is a good slice of pizza, I'll have 3 pies to go.
We'll Lenny's grandma slices are one of them 3 pies to go type slices. 8) -
Craved Franny's in the worst way ever at work today...but when I called to place a takeout order at about 8, the lady on the phone told me that they weren't accepting any takeour orders for an hour.....
Has anyone else had this experience? (still very sad about lack o'pizza tonite) -
Grimaldi's. But I eat pizza like once a year. I prefer to keep things low-carb and sexy.

that's mega ghetto. it's one thing to say "it'll be 30 mins before your order is up". it's another to say "no. call back." I'm actually shocked that franny's had the balls to say that.

that is in the style of DiFara's? Every time I'm over there (it's next to my vet) they're closed. It's dinner only during the week, and closed Tuesdays.
and don't the Royal Crown bread people have a pizzaria in Bay Ridge somewhere? It's near Piazza Mercato (92nd and 2or3rd Ave)
Would you walk the extra blocks if you were already at Century21? -

DiFara on Avenue J and E. 15 st is the best imo. The line can be a bit long (e.g. 1 hour+ wait at times) since it is the single original owner actually making all the pies himself (he's quite old) with the help of his sons doing the other stuff. This is an artist at work literally and is worth the wait. Be sure to try his square slices (yes, he sells single slices too)! I live 3 blocks away and every time I pass by there is always a line there. Be patient and your palate shall be rewarded. Last time I went, the party in front of me was from Italy to try out this guy's pizza. -
so I just called Antonio's on Flatbush and my phone dude was extremely flirty. he said that all of y'all have been ordering white pizzas, too. and he congratulated me on my choice of adding chopped tomato and garlic to it. so 'sup, PH/PSers??? everyone ordering my shit?

It isnt that difficult to park.. I grew up in the hood and return all the time... compared to PS it is a picnic. The busiest times on J. are Sunday and Fri.

hands down.. the best pizz ain brooklyn and possibly the world. -
South Slope: Princess Pizza on 5th Ave & 14th street always make my pizza "well done" when I ask so the cheese is a little dark and the crust is still pliable but crispy. It isn't like those fancy gourment pizzas with truffles and gold leaf, but it's reliable, tasty and cheap.

Wow. Princess is one of my LEAST favorite places. The sauce is too sweet and I don't find anything special about the slices. If I'm over there, I'll go 2 blocks down to Lenny's, which is a vast improvement (and thanks to Idlewild for turning me on to them) -
