Be sure to rock your white baseball caps and have a bud for me.

er. not cool, buddy. I, thankfully, do have a life despite prolific posting. whatever your issue is I have yet to figure out. good look with it. -
First time poster.
Bummer about Plan B. Looks like a Cabo crowd. Late night street noise is cranking up, alot of apparent testosterone spills, cars are pulling up to the place with chanting sorority sisters, bros high fiving and howling(?), the blue neon SUUUCKS, and the TVs... Its true I have some snob-like tendencies, but what really bums me out is that this seems like prep for the sports arena crowd. The new Fort Greene just became the new Bayonne. Welcome to the hood...bro. -
I have to say...if Plan B will show all of the NFL games on Sundays (including non-East Coast teams...just sayin'!), I might be happy with the addition to the neighborhood. We shall see!
-
you guys are a bunch of whiny babies! Calling the bar dumb because they sell Bud??? are you joking? Who cares. Bud is the most popular kind of beer and they absolutely should sell it there. Maybe you don't like the crowd or whatever, but apparently that means you don't belong there.
The owner is simply the nicest guy around and really wanted to make people happy by putting a hang out area in the neighborhood and you guys bitch about the friggin beer choices? for crying out loud! I don't see you out there making a better bar with better beer, anyone!! -
I agree that it's lame to criticize the bar for selling Bud. Most bars do.
-
I didn't mean to come off as a super bitch, but I have been a friend of the owner of the bar for a really long time and he worked really hard to get this bar opened so that people in the neighborhood would have a place to go and I come on here and people are so negative and complaining about everything!
If it was something you all worked hard on and then a bunch of haters came on a forum and judged it before even going there, you would be mad too. and over them selling Bud? wow. -
i was looking back at some older posts, from when the owner was posting here, and was reminded that he had been talking about having wine as well.
anybody know more on that? -
If you sell beer and sell the worst kind of beer it just expresses the kind of place it is, that's all. I'm sure there's a crowd for a bar with pedestrian taps but to get my dollar, they're going to have to work a little harder as a lot of other bars on the street have more interesting and eclectic choices. Beer tastes have evolved significantly in recent years and people are interested in unique, well-crafted, interesting beers. Not mass-produced watered down swill. It would speak to the competance of a bar owner to know that and cater to it.

Even most of the places that sell that type of beer sell Bud in a bottle. -

true. but. I know plenty of folks who still like bud. I don't have a problem with a place that provides some eclectic, interesting beers as well as bud and/or miller. it's nice for bars to be all inclusive, no? -

It would also speak to the competance of the bar owner to offer one of the most popular beers, no matter how much it tastes like fizzy cat piss. Besides it doesn't preclude them from offering other beers, it's called reaching out to as large a market as possible. It is a profit making exercise after all. -
Sure, sell Bud in a bottle. But on tap? I don't know who drinks that crap aside from truck drivers from Kansas and Rockaway housewives.
And there seems to be nothing but Bud and the like: Stella, Heineken, Blue Moon --- corporate beer hell. Maybe they'll wise up and start to rotate in something worth drinking. -

OK...we're beating a dead horse, people. -
Well I will be sure to mention it to him and see what he says since a bunch of you seem to be mad about the beer selection. I wouldn't write the bar off over the beer selection though..
-
I'm not writing it off, it's just criticism.
-
I would totally write off a bar for having a shit selection of drinks at my disposal. Why would I go there, otherwise?
Look. Those of you who lean towards drinking Corona, Bud and Blue Moon can have a Flintstonesesque gay ol' time hanging at Plan B and can praise it all ya want.
Those who lean towards drinking Brooklyn, Sixpoint, Cap'n Lawrence, Dogfish Head, etc. can have a Flintstonesesque gay ol' time hanging out elsewhere and can rag on Plan B all ya want.
Will the bar survive? Who knows. Businesses fail all the time. But I have to say that Plan B seems like it was transplanted from Murray Hill or something. And I don't have to like that or speak kindly of it or give it a chance, especially if it doesn't even serve beverages that I want to drink. Where one hangs shouldn't be a matter of charity. -

Um. That makes no sense. That's like telling someone to go back to a restaurant even though they have crap food.
I get that you're trying to stand up for your friend, but what you typed isn't a tad bit logical. -

I guess I didn't word it correctly. I was meaning more like I wouldn't write off the entire place (which is ALSO a restaurant) just because they have Bud there. Was there absolutely nothing you would drink there?? Maybe the food is worth going for. I just dont think it is right to say the entire place sucks because of them having Bud on tap. lol -

I drink Bud and prefer it on tap. Lay off the Bud, wouldjya? Just because it ain't yr thing doesn't mean you should be all insulted and insulting about it. I take away points when a bar does not have Bud. It is, after all, the King Of Beers.
And there seems to be nothing but Bud and the like: Stella, Heineken, Blue Moon --- corporate beer hell. Maybe they'll wise up and start to rotate in something worth drinking. -
I agree with EZN, this post smacks of elitism. I know plenty of well educated New Yorkers who drink Bud. Really who gives a shit what people drink. A bar owner would be a fool not to offer Bud.
-
it's not the bud; it's the lack of other good options...although i admit i am not above a blue moon now and then.
-
Exactly. It's not the mere presence of Bud... it's the Gestalt of shit beer + the promise of generic bar food. And I think Blue Moon is downright heinous - I'd actually drink Bud over it, and that's not saying much. But hey, these are just my opinions.
If only this place televised sports and matches beyond what every other NYC sports bars televises... it'd have something to set it apart and grab my attention. Boxing, anyone? Premier League? UEFA? MLS? -
Many successful places sell bud, one of which, is my favorite Upper East Side Pub. As for other options, they never claimed to be a beer tavern. The B is not for beer. Or is it...?
As for me, I hardly ever drink beer, an East Inda Pale ale here or there; that's it. I passed by Plan B on the way home from Midtown festivities on Cinco de May, and it just appeared to be a not-so-interesting crowd. So I continued on.
I will check it out if they have a good happy hour.
Also, this neighborhood is not the new anything; it's Prospect Heights. It's fine by its own right. It's been battered and bruised, but PH seems to be making a comeback. As for me, I'm moving to the Isle. But PH has been ok to me so far. -
I’ve had Bud on tap that tasted great because all the truckers had been drinking it and it had been running well. I’ve had Sixpoint that tasted like pee because no one there new that it was a great beer and it must have been sitting in the line for a spell. If I ask the bartender “what’s running well” and get a blank look I get a Bud.
The place just opened and the owner will figure what people want as he gets to know them. In the mean time he’s got the most popular stuff. In any business it’s not always what’s good that sells. If enough people who are supporting the bar ask for Sixpoint or some other brand I’m sure they will want to accommodate them. Let’s give it a chance. -
has anyone been there recently? I haven't had a chance but will try in the next few weeks - i like to give everyplace a chance. Like I said earlier, I've only been there breifly with the owner, and hung out with some workers from there, but afte rtheir shift, at barrette.

I may go tonight to watch the Twins/Sox game.
Anyone want to meet up? -
…and root for the Twins?

This is one of my toughest life decisions. I grew up in Twins territory, thus a lifelong Twins fan. However, I went to college in Maine and lived in Boston, thus became a Sox fan.
Whenever they play, I just watch. -
My wife and I went here last night.
We went for one specific reason: to watch a baseball game. For that purpose, it was ideal.
The place itself is fairly generic (atmosphere, food/drink offerings), but that is probably the most offensive thing about it.
The crowd appeared to be locals, and the bartenders were quite friendly.
From what I can tell, some people are upset because this place didn't turn out to be what they had in mind and/or hoped for. Well, if you wanted a specific type of place, the only real guarantee is to open it yourself.
As always, time will tell if this place has what it takes for people to keep walking in the door.
FWIW, here is the tap beer list:
-Magners
-Brooklyn Lager
-Stella
-Hoegarden (sp?)
-Bud Light
-Sam Adams Summer
-Sam Adams
-Blue Moon
-Guiness
Yes, very macro and very generic...but, no Budweiser on tap...which some seem to think is the case.
