  • No sign for 'on vacation'? hmmm...
  • hmmm... loved their avocado bagels
  • I hear she's trying to rent the place out. Any takers?
  • But it's been closed and up for rent before, and and then re-opened. I'll believe it when I see it.

Just as long as the new addition isn't another Home Heating Oil outlet...
  • there have been many posts about that place before and the short of it is the owner is commonly known as "coffee bitch".

in the 3 years ive lived here it has closed a couple of times.

in one of the old hate posts i read about muddy waters someone who claimed to be on the coop board of the building that muddy waters occupies said that everyone in the building hated the muddy waters lady and when her lease was up ( which they said was soon ) they would not renew it.
maybe the day of reckoning has finnaly come.

i thought when Joyce's opened it would take away what little customers MW had but the exact opposite happened. Joyce's is so crowded that people wind up spilling over into MW.
  • I hope this is the end of the line for her. PH needs new businesses and that location is prime. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, her other venue, Chocolate Monkey, seems to be doing quite well.
  • hmmm. Muddy Waters gets my business sometimes because Joyce opens at 9am (9am!!!) on weekends and on mornings when I'm ambitious, I want my coffee way before that.

Muddy Waters also has good bagels.
  • Joyce seems to be doing so well that they don't have to be opened all the time. They were closed for a few days during the holidays, they open pretty late for a coffee shop, and in the beginining, they weren't opened on Sundays. BUT, I really like the place. There are usually cute guys there, too.
  • I wish Joyce stayed open later and was open during the holidays.

I would also like to see a 24 hour anything, particularly a diner, in our 'hood.

Doesnt Joyce open @ 7/730? anyway muddy waters claimed to be open from 6am-10pm...or somthing...anyway - they werent open when there sign said they were.

On weekdays but on weekends they open at 9am.

aw. see? well joyce wants you to get your beauty rest on the weekends! no need to wake up that early on a saturday! ;-)

i do wish that they'd stay open on the later side. i got there on s sunday once... got my coffee, got my puter out of my bag and booted and went to sit down to start surfing the nets, to find out from another customer that they closed in 15 minutes, and i think that it was only 545pm!

i ended up walking over to gorilla, which i liked... but i did actually have work to do at that point, and they were blaring sleater kinney SUPER LOUD--i was under the impression that they were doing it as a sign to kick customers out? i love sleater and all, but not when i go to a coffee shop with an intention to work... i've not been back to gorilla unless i'm with friends and i want to feel like i'm in a party in a coffee shop.

Purity is currently open 'til 11p, but someone who works there told me they wanted to get back to 24/7... at least for deliveries. Not sure if this is still the plan.

Are they really? Last I check Purity was only open till 6 or so? At least thats what they had written for us on the menu one time we were over there and asked them for their delivery menu to take home with us.

Would be so great if they were open 24 hour, if not, at least later than 6! I don't even get home from work before 6!!! :P

oh man. purity is the worst. i've had nothing but horrible service, whether ive gone in there, or have gotten delivery. i'm talking slow service when NO one else is in there... burnt food. waitresses who cant add up the check, and then fight with you when you add correctly for them. i swore i'd never eat there again and i haven't. the shorter their hours the better! spare the neighborhood of that place!!!!

I couldn't agree with you more ProspectPl - I live right down the block from them. While they are very friendly neighbors their food is terrible. I would rather spend the few extra $ on a burger across the street at Tavern on Dean or a great deli sandwich at the bodega on the corner of Underhill and Bergen where they pack in so much meat for about $4.

Crappy or not at least there would be a place to get food from late at night in the nabe. Everything closes so darned early around here. I'd LOVE some late night options.
  • I would LOVE to support Purity, but stopped eating there years ago. THey can't do a basic, greasy spoon breakfast, really it's like the place is owned by the Three Stooges. Old school hilarity doesn't translate into edible food, unfortunately.
  • Good riddance, the people behind the counter the most rude in Prospect heights!!!Joyce, whatever, i'd rather go to Gorrilla

whos the most rude behind the counter...?
  • I like the girl at Joyce that calls all the guys "Mister". As in, "Mister, what would you like?"

    It's funny, yet charming.

I need to go there this weekend...was bummed they were closed over the holidays when I had some time off. But, I'm sure their employees enjoyed the days off.

she's my favorite. and every morning, we try and make bets on when muddy waters will close. she told me that muddy waters is supposed to open back up at 7am either tomorrow monday though.

i also love them, because i am now known as "small in large cup" girl, and they don't charge me, unlike muddy waters lady who didn't even want to give me water, since she said cups costs money!!! beeeeeeeeeeyotch!

The thing about Purity that really ticked my wife off was the coffee, it was awful. How can you run a diner with bad coffee?

Au contraire, how can you have the quintessential American diner experience without the world's worst coffee?
  • Exactly what doctorj said.
  • Subject: Waitress

This is a very old joke.

Waitress: Good morning and welcome to (diner name here) may I take your order?

Customer: I want runny scambled eggs, salty home fries, burnt toast, raw bacon, and finish that off with some cold bitter coffee.

Waitress: Sir, I can't do that.

Customer: Why not, that's what you gave me yestserday morning.
