Thoughts!!! [on a seafood restaurant] — Brooklynian

Thoughts!!! [on a seafood restaurant]

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I am thinking of opening a Seafood restaurant on Vanderbilt, including raw oyster bar, all kinds of Fried fish, something completely different from the other seafood place on Vanderbilt. I am working with a Local chef, location is almost secure, will Prospect Heights people be open to the idea, even though oyster are not so cheap???

  • will you take credit cards?
  • Why do you care about our opinion? According to you, we're just a bunch of whiners. Surely you don't need our input for your new, service-based endeavor.
  • I'd totally go. I loves me the seafood.
  • I'd love a good seafood place closer and cheaper than Blue Ribbon. (Which I am going to tomorrow, so don't consider this even the slightest bit of hate for Blue Ribbon.)
  • How about a Whine and Cheese Bar instead?

    :)
  • Whine and cheese bar has been teied already, remember half???
Hey Brooke why so bitter all the time???

She can't put a pack of gum on her credit card at Deli Cup. :)

I happen to be on a see food diet myself

I'm not entirely sure why you think I go prancing around everywhere trying to purchase with my card the least expensive items I can find. Hell, you've even directed me to India.

My credit card issue had to do with a business that was requiring a minimum, which is a violation of their contract.

My beef with YOU is that when you first entered into these forums you tried to instigate a flame riot (for which you were warned) - in the process, calling myself and others, whiners, babies, etc. Now you want our opinion?

Here's my opinion: if you run a restaurant the way I think someone like you would run it, don't even bother.

If you're going to run it well (great food, great SERVICE, no attitude, etc.), then it will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
  • My responses have been sarcastic, if you do not have a sense of sarcasm i feel sorry for you!!!I supose you know my character...I would not want to have a customer like you coming toany restauranT!!!
  • what is a "customer like me"?
  • extremely demanding, demeaning, and for what i can tell cheap and not a good tipper!!
  • But anyhow Brooke, this post is not about you, but as aual, you demand all attention, it's all about you when it is not!!!
  • Of course, I'm none of those things. I rarely bother the server for more than they are giving; I'm overly polite as to not come across as a dick; my minimum tip is 18-20%.

As "usual" I'm demanding attention? Do you even read these boards?

    You're a complete tool, aren't you?
  • NO PERSONAL ATTACKS. Both of yas. Cut it out.

  • I could go for a place with whole belly fried clams. Serve that and I'll put your kids through college.
  • That sounds like a great idea, i will look into the clams, makes me want to eat them now
  • That is a great i dea, i will consider the clam idea, thank you
  • dingleberry wrote: That is a great i dea, i will consider the clam idea, thank you
Remember - clam bellies, not strips. Bellies = goodness. Strips = Friendly's (also goodness. but fastfoodfriedgross goodness).
  • Like they do in Kennebunk, Maine, not Boston, Massachusetts. The whole clam and nothing but the clam. Softshell clams.
  • I'd love to have a relatively inexpensive, healthy fish place (or at least one with healthy options) in the neighborhood. I LOVE the fish at Bob Law's, but I try not to go there very much because I'm fat enough as it is. :)
  • I'd be into a raw bar that was affordable. By this I mean you could eat and have a drink for $20. That would rule. I hope you will take cash (I destroyed all my credit cards).
  • ummmm. oysters and champage. The best oysters I've eaten was when I was in Vancouver BC. Nothing I've had since can even compare
  • We are so there!
  • excellent
    :DDDDDDDDDDD
and while i would love it to be affordable
FRESH is most important when it comes to raw

so after starting a thread trashing bob law's, this is what you're really up to.

this neighborhood is too small to try to win business by attacking a would-be competitor. many residents, for example, have been avoiding shane's since their anti-tom's campaign left a bad taste in our mouths. bob law's is an established restaurant that many people love.

if you open a place with good food, good service and reasonable prices, they'll speak for themselves. to co-opt someone else's slogan, develop, don't destroy.

I don't think you can serve non-frozen seafood for cheap in NYC.
if we're talking 1/2 doz with a beer or two,
Sheep Station, 4th Ave and Douglass
(don't know if they take plastic)
    or
Brooklyn Fish Camp, 5th Ave and I don't know where
(FER SURE takes plastic. sit at the tiny bar and eat some raw stuff and a pilsner. you'll barely escape under $20. wine list unimpressive last time I checked. The cod sandwich is perfect and huge.)

[yes, I am aware that both of these are in the Slope, like Blue Ribbon]
  • i would love to see raw bar at any price point in ph and would help idlewild with your kids' tuition, if this were to manifest.
suggestions? full raw bar at whatever it costs to provide excellent mollusks, but hopefully less $ than blue rib. cheaper sea stuff such as steamers and fish sammies and fried seafood and salads to fill us up. quiet jazzy-vibe full bar and wine. more neighborhoody than stylish. wifi. yes, this is my personal fantasy ph establishment, i admit.
