Wildlife in Clinton Hill!!
I saw not one but TWO racoons crossing Myrtle ave at Waverly last night. I followed them for a half a block down waverly as they furtively moved under cars. Once cofomtably within the block they then started just walking along on the sidewalk. The most adventerous racoon scrambled onto a window sill looked both ways then gave the go ahead sign to his buddy who had scuttled under a car when someone drove by. The second Racoon then joined his friend on the window sill and they disappeared between the builiding.

Funny. They must've tagged along with the re-urbanizing empty nesters.
While I have only known them to be sort like bigger, more aggressive rats, for whatever reason it's amusing that they'd show up here. Let's face it, if rats were cute we'd be more likely to tolerate them. Ok, maybe not, but take it from me - don't get too close to a raccoon. -

No, it's true! And if squirrels didn't have big poofy tails, we'd despise them like rats.
You can't help but like racoons what with they're black-circled eyes and all. -
I think rats are cute, actually.

I Saw Bugs Bunny wated at Rope. An hour later Mickey Mouse walked in, he had no pants on. -
Did I see a hawk in Ft. G park yesterday morning? Anyone else?

Obviously you're not from Brooklyn, those were rats -

I actually seen a racoon on Classon between gates and Quincy street in March. Definitely this was a racoon, not a rat. Huge racoon  -

I saw one crossing the street on Clinton near Gates one night a couple months ago...it was ENORMOUS! And it was actually kind of comical...i was getting out of a cab and it was crossing behind us...I saw it at the same moment it saw me...and we both froze and stared a eachother for a few beats before it took off. Think I scared it as much as it scared me.

I think the racoons might be related to the rats at the Not Rays pizza place across from Habana Outpost, and they do have hawks in Prospect Pk.

I found weird footprints in my yard two days ago and didn't want to believe it was a wild animal. Tonight i saw it! a poor little scared raccoon cowering under a car infront of emigrant savings bank.
and no, it was not a rat. and no, raccoons have no relation to rats(rodents) at all actually. They are of the Procyonidae family, their closest relatives are the ringtails, coatis and coatimundis.
I also did see a big hawk not too long ago in fort greene... unbelievable! -
I'm sure there's some racoons around, probably plenty inhabiting some of the overgrown areas of the Navy Yard. They are scavengers and prone to feeding in dumpsters or trash cans.
Whatever you do, don't corner a racoon. They will tear you up good if they feel threatened. -
Tornadoes, raccoons, who knows what else the yups will bring with them next from the burbs!!

Back when I lived in Queens, a racoon climbed up my fire escape. I looked out my bedroom window and there it was.
(And before you even say it, I was more than ten blocks away and across Queens Boulevard from the nearest cemetary. Or the nearest park, but let's face it, there are more cemetaries than parks in Queens.)
Howdy, Stranger!
