good, affordable vet in the area?

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
My dog is sick! He was normal on Thursday, but last night when we went for our walk, I noticed he was lagging behind a bit. I took him home, and observed him - he has a runny nose, but no coughing, eye discharge, or other congestion. He ate less than usual, and has less energy than usual. He seems to have a mild bug.

Is something going around?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, AFFORDABLE vet in the neighborhood? I know of some of the local vets, like the one on PPW in Park Slope, but find them very costly. I take my dog to the Humane Society for checkups and routine stuff, and they're great - and reasonably priced - but for things that need more immediate attention it would be helpful to find someone close by.

I don't want to take him to a neighborhood vet, only to be told $150. later that he has a doggy version of a "cold". On the other hand, I don't want to ignore something that could be serious. His symptoms are mild, so I'm not sure if he needs to go to the vet yet...just keeping an eye on him today and waiting to see how things go.

  • I've been going to Prospect Park Animal Clinic for 6 years. I and my dogs love it. Gtreat care and fairly reasonable prices.

I'll put in another rec for Prospect Park Animal Clinic. A friend has been taking her dog there for years, and I take my cats there now based on her recommendation and they're wonderful. When my friend found some kittens that had been left in a box in the Park, the vets there checked them out, cleaned them up, gave them shots, etc. for an incredibly reasonable rate.

i recommend Prospect Park Animal Clinic as well.
fair pricing. good care. and conveniently located.

I do NOT recommend Animal Kind.
expensive. and they try and shove unnecessary tests and procedures to pad the bill.
and when you ask about it they try and make you feel as if you're the
worst owner in the world for not wanting these additional tests.
  • animal kind is really expensive and I dislike them deeply for regular care. but I think in a real emergency situation, they're a good number to know as they are staffed 24 hours.

I love Hope, though, for regular care. I really recommend it.
