Just passed by and the sign is out - Sweet Melissa to open it's doors at 7:30 AM on Wed September 13th.

7th Ave between 1st and 2nd - east side of street next to laundromat.

Delicious pastries, and a tea shop and morning coffee.

Finally a great baker on 7th Ave!

  • sweet melissa has come to the Slope? yea! now if only there was one that would come to South Slope...

(not to knock Two Little Red Hens. They are great. But the pastries are kind of limited.)
  • Great, just what I need. I just found out Hagen Daaz delivers, now this! I'm going to be faaaaaaaaat! On the bright side, once I do become fat, at least I can stop worrying about eating too many pasteries!

So, where's the other Sweet Melisa? I've been past the new, almost open one a few times now, and the name sounded familiar.
  • it's on Court, between Douglass and Butler. i think it's been around since '98 or '99. some tasty treats are to be had there, and they used to do (and i think still do) a full tea service in the afternoons.

they're gonna be a welcome addition to the nabe :)

It's easy to get fat in a neighborhood with so many good cooks. I ate Thai food from Mango twice within 12 hours. M'aider! M'aider!

No joke, my favorite thing about living in PS (well, second fav, after the park) is allllllll the food. It's shocking. I don't think the nabe is missing anything! (well, is there ethipoian? not sure if there is). None the less, the food in PS is awesome and reason enough to live here. The park will continue to keep me thin (I hope!)
  • stopped by there tonight on my way home from the AY Environmental Impact Study debriefing (thanks again, pitu!)

place looks LOVELY. didn't sit down for a meal and a pot of tea, but most definitely will do it another day.

brought home Queen's Cake, orange poppy cake, and 2 types of madelines: pistachio and chesnut honey. mmmmm. mmmmMMMM! MMMMMfreakinMMMMM!!!!

it was all faboo, and i can't wait to go back -- i am so happy they're here!

    =P~
